Just curious if anyone watches southland? Former NBC show that moved to TNT.Really have liked this show since episode 1, only cop show other than NYPD Blue and maybe Third Watch I've ever cared for, mainly because they get it right for the most part plus some great actors and storylines.Any thoughts?
Hoping TNT picks the show up for a fourth season, great show that NBC unwisely dumped a while back. |

NBC's been making a lot of stupid decisions with programming. It doesn't suprise me that they'd dump a good hour-long drama when they can shovel out yet another crappy Law and Order series. What do they have 12 of those already?

I wonder if it will be able to wade through the CSIs to the UK.
![]() Must confess though I do have a soft spot for NCIS... ![]() |

Southland was shown over here last year on More4, but then was dropped after 1 season. Really enjoyed it while it was on.

I have watched the first season and some episodes of the 2nd. I like the grim feeling of this series. I'm not sure if the cases presented are real ones - I've read different stuff about this - but they do feel real, the same way that the police work and the characters look real.
Is there any difference to see since the series went to TNT, especially considering budget cuts? |

I have not noticed any differences I would attribute to budget cuts other than a smaller cast and less air time for some others. The show as it is now seems to mostly be about Sherman/Cooper and the Detective Lydia.Don't want to spoil too much but third season ends with one detective going back to patrol after his partner is killed, the boot(Sherman) finished his field training and is in new division, partnered with the former detective.I believe this move was done so in the 4th season they follow sherman and his new partner, cooper and whatever he is doing and Lydia(black female detective, who is great on this show) sort of a consolidation.Noticed the Captain "Sal" , his storylines are not really there anymore, he's more of a supporting role.Still a great show that NBC was stupid to dump, esp since the ratings were good. I too enjoy the gritty, real feel.I've been on several police ride alongs and although not in Los Angeles, saw some crazy stuff. They capture the feel and the manner or most cops very well. Many of the cases and calls they have in the show are based on actual cases. The way an officer was killed in the 3rd season is the same way an officer was actually killed. There is a shootout in 3rd season also involving the detective(lydia) that really happened years ago. Good show, only cop show I've really ever enjoyed minus NYPD Blue and Third Watch(at times) Nice to see something besides NYPD though and something that portrays LAPD in a fair manner, not for or against, just fair. For many years LAPD was not portrayed in a great light by hollywood. |
