Default The End is Near

Ok, I am not posting this to elicit general religion bashing, that's pretty boring. I did find the article intersting, how people can adopt a belief about the end of the world and cling to it so fiercely. That's pretty amazing.

I really wish/hope the journalists follow up this article when the day after the end comes, and I hope I can find it. I wonder what these people will think and feel....?

Road trip to the end of the world

Quote:
If you thought you had less than three perfectly healthy months to live, what would you do? Would you travel? Spend time with loved ones? Appreciate the joy life has given you? Or would you ditch your kids and grandkids, join strangers in a caravan of RVs and travel the country warning people about the end of the world?

I always kind of thought about it this way:

The end of the world is kinda like death. If it does happen, chances are, you won't care. If it doesn't happen, most people won't change how they are on every other day. Look at the doom n' gloom around Y2K - when nothing happened, nothing else happened, either. We just changed calendar pages and went back to our lives.

That said - I'd rather spend real time with the people I love everyday than try to cram a lifetime's worth of living in the last few hours left. I still grieve my mom these three and a half months on, for all those times I didn't do that.

Same. I grieve my grandmother for a few months too but it now has become better. I'm sure she with or soon will be with God. It helped that God let you know she was going to be taken away months before she even got sick. In that it was time. From my impression she went up but who knows what went up is or where it leads to in the other world.

The only regret is I never bought her anything. But the thoughts that we're going to see each other in the future comforts me nonetheless. To me she isn't gone just went to a permanent vacation, a place where she's or would be much happier and I'll see her again soon enough. Immediately or end time as there's simply no difference to that at least to the dead.

So many stupid, stupid people.

Christians have been prophecising the end of the world since Jesus himself did it in Mark, and every single one has been dead wrong.

Does that fact stop anyone from trying? Nope.

I'd love to see these people's faces on May 22.

Anyway, I'd live life to the fullest if I knew the world was going to end.

It amazes me that so many peole can be duped into believing this. But then again, it has always amazed me that so many people are duped into smoking cigarettes.... so I guess there must be some common weaknesses in the human psyche that allows them to fall for things like this. Can't help but wonder what their thought process is, as they begin to fully accept the end is really coming...based on some very broad assumptions and a 3000 year old religious text... wow.

Well I for one don't think it will happen anytime soon. Even so, biblically speaking nobody knows the day or hour it will happen that's for sure. But the topic being what it is I'll add my two cents. One of the things it is said will happen in the time of the end is knowledge will increase. Not the knowledge that sends men to the moon. But rather as world events unfold we compare that with what already written and finally understand.

One of the things that was said to happen is that the Realm of Javan will come against Middle Easteren kings. Then Javan's horn will inexplicably be broken. Biblically a horn represents authority or a kingdom, Javan is those tribes that have populated the Gentile nations.

What I saw is the Realm of Javan came against kings of the middle east and now a shake up and if it goes the direction I think will. Javan's horn will be broken, meaning either by a major catastrophy or simply being weakened to the point of no longer able to maintain any influence in the region.

Like you said I could be amongst those who are wrong maybe not. I'm only a spectator not prophet.

Well, considering that "The End Times" was originally supposed to happen during the lifetimes of the original Apostles, the end of the worlders have no choice but to keep saying "It's going to happen soon".

I have an Aunt and Uncle who are both deacons in the Episcopalian (spelling?) Church. And they both think the end of the worlders are nuts.

Well, as long as we're not talking about subsim....

I got to see some of this my freshmen year in college. When Iraq invaded in 91, I knew some people that were convinced this was it, the great war with babylon. They were hysterical at times.

Seems he said it would end in the 90's, but admitted he goofed on dates. I suspect that's what he'll say again and his troops will be marching on.

Having spent years in church when in my 20's and a few years of bible college, although more agnostic now, the prophecy of the end times is fairly amazing. By luck or will, it doe's amaze me how close the bible sets up the end times, the world economy, names the players, etc...

Maybe because nothing has changed. The bible doomsday is like a game of fill in the blanks.

In times of economic strife a leader will rise up that everyone loves and cause a massive war...

...right... how many times has this happened? Napoleon? Hitler? Lenin? Anytime life sucks people tend to listen to the crazies saying they have the sure fire way to fix the world.

In the time of great climatic disruption...

...right... the weather changes sharply some times. El Nino explains some of it, the dynamic nature of the Earth's environment explains a lot too. FCOL we had a partial ice age a few centuries ago. In fact the Earth should be a hotter planet than it is right now.

Seriously people...

Fair play to the Rapture man.
He may not know the day or the hour but he has made a cool $120 million by preaching to mugs and telling them that he does.
