Default British Submarines in GWX

I have seen a couple of enemy submarines in convoy, but yesterday I ran into one solo in AM52. I had closed at PD with a warship contact in very low visibility and she slid right in front of me at 300m. I did not see a flag, but did notice all the guns manned in high seas.

Question: I chose not to fire in case it was one of ours, plus hitting the small size in rough water was slim. Are there any random encounters with other U boats in GWX?

Only times I've run into submarines is when they are used as a convoy escort. Luckily they can't fire their torpedoes, but they are quite hard to hit with the deck gun.

I've encountered other u-boats in open waters and they too have all the stations maned as well.

There are RN subs patrolling the Bay of Biscay. I've encountered a few of them. I usually just sink em with a torpedo, as I've heard they're a real pain to sink with the deck gun.

The only British subs I've seen are escorts or in Lerwick. I've never engaged the escorts and the harbored boats are a pain to sink.

I've encountered and engaged American Gato-class submarines twice. Both times, they were heading south somewhat near the US coast. One was sunk from a distance (guess how). The other I gave up due to very poor weather and a lack of shells; I only knew he was there because of my RADAR detector.

It's not uncommon to see a friendly boat in the Bay of Biscay. VIIC's are most often in the U-FlaK config when it's available. I've encountered one a good distance into the mid-Atlantic.

And much to my annoyance, friendlies have disrupted convoy attacks on multiple occasions.

I have encountered British subs off the coast of Norway, as well as the other areas already mentioned.

I sighted a VIIC once and shouted "It's Thomsen! Thomsen!" IIRC it was west of Lorient.

I've encountered more S class subs in convoy than existed at the time.

I've spotted S class subs in the bay of biscay and off the coast of Holland.
The T class I have spotted between the Shetland and Faroe islands, off Crete and around the shallow waters to the west of Malta.
The S subs are frequently included in convoys heading north from Gibralter and I once saw a T class in a convoy in the North Sea, which also had a large number of neutrals in it, heading to Norway.

Try patrolling off Murmansk....you'll catch a look of the rare Scuka class if your lucky.....roughly the Russian equivalent to the British S class.

And for some reason game doesn't add their tonnage to the total amount.

It should do if you use Sh3 Commander with the GWX CFG file.
