Default Where is everybody? The only boat in the village!

Hi,

I've added several new mods to Silent Hunter, and started a new career and I'm suddenly finding it quite a lonely experience.

I've just activated the Merchant Fleet with Skin packs, the OLC Gui which is lurvely and made it possible to use the XXI from '39 just for a bit of fun that I need to get out my system before I go back to doing it properly.

Leaving Wilhems'... No other traffic.

My first patrol was me, 50 other people and whole bunch of radio messages. When the UK went red, I thought I'd see what the XXI was really made of and took her into the channel.

Nothing.

I thought I'd go do some hell-raising at Dover.

Nobody was home.

I went to my grid off the west of Ireland.

Nowt.

I juorneyed down towards Gibralter.

Zippo.

I rocked up in the port of Gibralter and what did I find? A luke warm mug of coffee and half eaten doughnut, but no ships.

If nobody's seen this before then I'm gong to have to spend bloody ages faffing about with enabling/disabling various mods in certain orders and then going on long patrols in the hopes I get lucky.

If you can save me a few nights of this madness, I'd be ever so grateful.

Rob.

I know I'm a new member and all, without a lot of experience in the game and such, but my first guess would be that you lost the scripted and random layers somehow. See if they still exist, or maybe they got replaced with empty ones. Check the layers in the mission editor to see if they are still populated with ships in the harbors.

Obvious question, but have you got GWX 3.0 installed?

@ Stargazer: did you by any chance enable one or more of the mods that are called something like Black Sea Campaign, Indian Ocean Campaign, etc.?

Check the GWX3 manual to be sure, but those mods (and there may be others that overwrite the existing campaign files) should only be used if you are going to be operating in those areas and those areas only as they *remove* traffic from the rest of the SH3 world in order to cut down on loading times.

But yeah as noted above if you are finding NO traffic at all, it's a good bet something has overwritten your campaign files (and the area-specific campaign mods are often the culprit when this occurs).

NOBODY reads a stupid Manual!

That would be like reading a Map when your on a trip!

Guys don't do that.

(We also don't ask for directions because we know it just ticks the Ladys off)

Okay... It looks like it didn;t like the order in which things went in.

I've spent flaming ages looking at loading screens and have worked out that the OLC gui needed to go in before the Merchant Fleet.

Now I've got both running... War has just been declared, I start sneaking up on a massive heavy merchant thinking how nice it is to have more of the weapon controls on the Periscope view and then whammo, I find out I can't get a weapons officer to take a shot for me.

So NOW it's time to start reading manuals.

If I could, I would have a hard copy of the GWX manual on hand. Not only is it a useful guide for playing the game, it's also full of useful tidbits. An interesting read.

Yeah... I need to get it printed. I have a ring binder for it, just need to find a quiet day at work and then cane the printers because my one here at home would still be going come August if I tried it now.

I've found another way to overcome some of my current problems is to can the OLC gui.

Beatuful. But tragically impractical for someone at my level. GUI mods are meant to build on the original, not take stuff away from it.

I caught a whiff of elitism and then immediatly uninstalled it. I guess the original will have to make do.
