Default Tron Legacy

Went to see Tron Legacy with the wife this evening.

Really enjoyed it actually.

Synopsis:

After freeing the digital world in the film TRON, Flynn returns to the real world stepping between his reality and the alternative reality of the digital world as he wishes. He, and his digital likeness "Clu" partner to become the fathers the perfect digital world. During one of Flynn's visits to the growing digital utopia, "Clu" citing a number of imperfections, betrays Flynn and attempts a coup against him.

Flynn narrowly escapes the digital city with his life, but in his escape, the portal between the digital world and his own closes and can only be opened from the outside. The son Flynn left behind has been searching for his much idolized father since. When one of Flynn's old partners receives a mysterious pager message from Flynn's old abandoned arcade the son, now 27 years old renews his search with fresh passion.

Upon entering the old arcade, the younger Flynn finds it just as his father had left it, and after discovering his fathers old computer terminal, he accidentally sends himself into the digital world. After reuniting with his ousted father, the two are thrust into a race against time to reach the closing portal to which Flynn holds the key. But "Clu", amassing an army has sinister plans of his own for the real world.

The film is visually stunning, and though a lot of the film relies heavily on the events of the past TRON movie, enough is explained through the well developed plot that you dont have to be a huge fan of the original TRON to keep up, though i will say that there will probably be a lot of the 20 and under crowd wondering where in the hell this TRON concept came from.

The film is a mix of 3D and 2D imagery that draws the viewer in and doesnt let go. Though the film is relatively quick to get to the point of thrusting the young Flynn into the digital world, it isn't so hasty as to leave gaping plot holes like a lot of films are guilty of.

The digital world we see in TRON Legacy is amazing, and by the end of the film things are left open ended just barely enough that the viewer longs to go back to the digital world and explore things a little more.

TRON Legacy is a film which is sure to secure it's position as a Science Fiction Masterpiece.

I rate it 4 out of 5 stars

The reviews have not been so kind on the other hand, the reason why I decided not to go but thanks for sharing your opinion just might change my mind.

reviews were not too kind to the original either, yet it has enjoyed a cult following.

Its a good popcorn muncher.

I'm generally very critical of movies that i see, and i tend to take them a little seriously sometimes.

I felt like i got my money's worth with this one, though its not Shakespeare by any stretch

getting my money's worth at the box office is a rare feeling anymore it seems.

Twelve fully functional Tron motorbikes have been built by a specialised company, for public sale. They are licensed for regular traffic on American roads, though in Germany they would not get that permission, due to the stricter regulations over here. When I read this news two days ago, 8 of the bikes already were sold to fans and/or collectors.

I suppose it would have to be better than the original. It still looks like a CGI fest. I predict it will be available "on demand" pretty fast.

That's a pretty high bar you are setting.

Watching my dog take a crap in the snow is better then the Transformers.

having waited almost 30 years for this sequel only the wife kept me out the line to see it last night. Tonights a different story, thanks for the review GR.

...I do see a hole in the plot- according to your description:
Quote:
Upon entering the old arcade, the younger Flynn finds it just as his father had left it, and after discovering his fathers old computer terminal, he accidentally sends himself into the digital world.
Flynn didn't enter the digital world from the arcade, he was 'kidnapped' in the laser test area at ENCOM by the MCP, a room the size of a warehouse. Unless Flynn figured out how to miniturize that room and stash it in his arcade between films I don't think his son would be able to enter the digital world as you describe.

...But that isn't going to stop me from seeing the film. I WILL miss Dillinger tho, "Those of you who fail to renounce their belief in the users will receive the standard substandard training"

you are correct.

good memory

however... in the time span between the two films

1. Flynn defeated the MCP and re-entered the real world with proof that his ideas were stolen

2. Flynn had become the CEO of encom

3. Flynn had partnered with CLU to build a digital utopia

4. In otder to do this, Flynn had to be able to step between his reality and the digital reality at will

5. thus... Flynn had a computer terminal placed in a large secret room beneath his arcade with the digitizing lazer so that he could transport in a controlled manner between the two worlds whenever he wanted.

this is explained in TRON Legacy

EDIT:

to everyone else... my statement of "it beat the hell out of transformers" was sort of a joke. Transformers was meant for a different audience, and despite the fact that every human being i know HATES all the transformers movies that hasnt stopped the "crappiest movie series ever made" from grossing $1.5 BILLION with a third film in production...

someone likes em
