Default About that new Tom Clancy book

Dead or Alive
has anyone read it yet?
is it good?
It has been 7 years since the last Jack Ryan book
I am really looking forward to this one. But considering the quality of the latest Tom Clancy products, I am really not sure if this book will be good or not

It's a Tom Clancy book, so it'll probably be great.

I read, own, and love, every jack ryan novel written. I even enjoyed Red Storm. I dropped the book after he retired, the one were his son is introduced as the main character. Not believable. Have any of his gotten better? I won't go back unless their on the same level as the JR books.

I enjoyed SSN, but towards the end I found it kind of annoying.. Not sure why.. seemed kind of implausible to me that a single 688i boat could take on the entire PLAN and some of the Russian navy alone. That and the dialogue got repetitive and started pissing me off

Yep, they were released as complementary products. A sort of "Multimedia experience" that was tried in the late 1990s.

The only thing remotely fun about the game was the FMV cut scenes. The one where the reporter on the deck of the carrier get her message cut off as the carrier is struck by a missile was great. The rest were just ho hum...

Let me ruin the book for you...

.... name a character in the book... now (without going back to the book) describe them without using their title, job, or what they look like...

... yea SSN is that bad...

If they rewrote the book today the PLAN wouldn't need all that Russian gear that magically shows up in the book.

The LWAMI team put a lot of the new PLAN/PLAAF gear in DW and for the first time in years I got my butt handed to me by the Chinese navy while driving a 688(i).

The last two he's put out just didn't grab me like his older ones. The one with Jack Ryan's son, and the one with a young Jack Ryan and the pope. Just not quite up to the level of what he used to write.

It's been a while, but I think I may try to find my copy of RSR and give that another read.
