Since when did Google instant become the default setting in the search box?
I don't allow Google to set cookies so it is always on Google instant, and if I change it back to standard it only lasts for that one search, even if I keep the original session open. It is so annoying as soon as I start typing it tries to figure out what I want and more often than not shows nothing but a blank page and I need to hit 'Search' manually. Rant over. |

I absolutly hate this feature. Honestly it slows me down.
Thats why I turn it off as soon as I see it. Unfortunatly security software or a new version of explorer resets it and it has to be turned off again ![]() They made it the default when it was first introduced several months ago because they felt that pepole would be wowed by it and could not live without it ![]() Oh yea in before the FireFox fanbois ![]()

I hate it with a passion, could be it only behaves like that on Opera, but with Google instant on, it was impossible for me to get back on the search results page once I had followed the link to a result, which sucks if the page doesn't contain what you were looking for.

I use Firefox and google.co.uk
unless you allow Google to set a million year cookie it will default to instant on all the time. |

For what it's worth I'm logged in to google all the time and after having to shut instant off twice it thankfully stayed off.

Funny enough, here at work I'm not logged in and it's been off ever since that BS went live.

well, there are three options:
- don't stay logged in at google - this goes at least for the german google - use the quick search bar of your browser - use scroogle.org, a proxy which filters out all of google's crap - also supports several languages and SSL (this is my choice ![]() |

I too use firefox, and yet Google is my default search engine. Could be worse, Bing could be the default search engine.
