Out of sector?

I played for the longest time with the external camera option turned off. I knew I might be weak and use it to get a "peek" at what was going on up there. But, after a few months of seeing those gorgeous screen shots on the other threads, I decided to turn the external camera on and soak up the beauty of my U-boat as it sliced through the water. This worked for a while and was very satisfying. However, the last couple of times I've gone into the game and activated the external camera via the F2 key, I get a screeching noise and the screen, except for the HUD, goes black with the error text "out of sector" displayed. Do any of you fine SH5 players out there know what is going on? Did I inadvertently change some setting and and ruin this fine feature?
