That guy is in a total fantasy land.

Now, lets say for one moment, that his suit does indeed offer ballistic protection. If it did, it could be argued that it provides a greater degree of protection then existing body armor.

But then the problems start rolling in.

1.) Helmet limits periphial vision, which lowers situational awareness.
2.) Despite vent holes, ill wager it makes hearing things around you a tad more difficult.
3.) It is probably not very quiet. Try creeping around with this crap on.
4.) It is too complex. Too complicated. It's little dodads would break constantly. Upkeep would be a bitch.
5.) Probably too heavy when you add a full combat load on top of it. Weapon, ammunition, rucksack, some provisions, etc.
6.) Overglorified pepper spray in the arm? REALLY? Seriously?
7.) Yeah, just try jumping in and out of vehicles with this crap on and not get caught on something.

If he really wanted to build better armor, he should probably rethink his inspiration. The "colonial marine" armor from aliens is probably more practical then this wannabe halo crap.

a 360 degree camera on the top of the helmet would increase situational awareness.

Could easily install external sound pickups increasing the range of human hearing

True, but spec ops type units don't go around with all the gear the regular infantry carry all the time. Scout units would't have all the heavy power armor kit.

Would need its own repair team much like a jet fighter.

Combined it with that suit that helps people left a lot.

I agree, forget nonlethal, if you want that put a repeating CS gas grenade launcher on it. But I would prefer a flamethrower or something.

Put a jet pack on it and it becomes a vehicle!

The Colonial Marines were inspired by the Mobile Infantry of Robert A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers, they wore power armor.

What the army is really working on...

We are going to need gear like this when we have to assault the Chinese Moonbase in 40 years.

Recon teams carry a lot more kit than your average soldier, not to mention deep recon. The only time you are lighter is when you have ditched and hidden the gear at your emergency rally point and are actually fulfilling your assignment.
