I turned it (and the cable box) on and it was fine and then it just... turned... off. And it won't come back on no matter how many times I press the power button.
I tried plugging it into an outlet that I know works (as the lamp that was plugged into it is, you know, ON) and... nothing. Everything else plugged into the same outlet as the TV also works fine there. I know squat about TVs, is it dead? If it's just the power cord, is that even worth fooling with? It's seven years old, maybe I should just buy an LCD or whatever is the standard "thing" now. Fortunately I have a working TV in another room (which is far older than this one, and still going strong) but now I can't lounge about on the couch and watch anything. ![]() Oh well... off to Amazon. At least if I buy a flat panel, it should be easy enough to buy online and get home on my own, unlike all previous TV purchases. |

Had this happen with a DVD player once.
Im not sure if your TV might have the same issue, but upon opening up the DVD player i discovered that right next to the power plug inside the DVD was a small fuse which had blown. A trip to the hardware store to buy a replacement fuse of the same amperage fixed the problem. it worked fine for several months then happened again. I can only assume the unit was defective, or perhaps received some sort of power surge. My advice would be to call a repair man or take it to a shop. if you dont want to spend the money on that, open the TV up and see where the power cord goes in and look for a fuse (it might have one like above that you can replace on your own for next to no $)

It's OK every show you want to watch is available online anyway. You don't NEED a TV anymore.

Is the power button working? I have one tv that has it power button damage or the spring of that is loose or damage. It won't make the contact to switch on. I have it allways on and I use the tv by plug in and out!

Well I will try to see if there is indeed a removable fuse that can be replaced.
I can't take it to a shop easily as it's way too big and heavy for me to move easily - no way I can carry it. If it comes down to either buying something new or getting it to a repair shop (or trying to work out a way to have a repairman come here) I will probably just buy something new. Ah, there does appear to be a little panel secured with a screw, where the power cord connects to the back of the set. May be worth a try if I can maneuver the thing around and check it out. ![]() The bad thing is I'm already looking at LCDs on Amazon and now I want one. ![]() Okay what's the deal with LED-lit? Obviously it costs more, is it worth it? I don't know what it does! |

Oh, absolutely!
I just took the little removable panel over the power connection off, there's no fuse, nothing, the cord just passes through it into the bowels of the beast, which I can't find a way to access unless I want to take the whole dang thing apart. Which would be fun and interesting, but not likely to result in anything getting fixed. The plug itself is one solid piece, nothing to pop out there to repair/replace anything either. |

It was already on when it died... so it's not like I pushed the power button and nothing happened. It won't come on with the remote either, and the remote is definitely working.
