Hello again,
I bought a new laptop that has windows 7 os. I have installed the DVD version (upgraded to 1.4 and without starforce). The stock game at 1024 works fine The problem is that I cannot install GWX 3.0 It constantly says things like this (more or less, because i amb traslating from spanish): an error occured while trying to read XXXXX (insert file name here, there are a lot it cannot read). So I cannot complete installation. Do you guys know where the problem is and how can I solve it? The weird thing is that I can run the stock game np. Thx! Edit: I already installed it in another folder (not program files). Tried to patch it anyway (don't know if 1.4 which is the version installed in my stock folder is the same as 1.4b), but couldn't. Try downloading GWX fresh from Jim's FileFront page - it's the last known good working location. I suspect you may have a corrupted copy.
I run GWX on W7 with no problems, and that's from an old starforced disk!

Easy one, if it works it's good d/l, if not it's bad d/l.
Ask me anything else, name? Rank? Number? Date of Birth? And I'm stumped ![]() Just call me Bern... oh, no, I'm not that bad ![]()

Where did you install SH3, into a custom directory on C:\ or the default setup? The default setup on W7 is known to cause problems with Windows UAC.

Unless you disable UAC, which, for a single user with several AV-type programs should be a problem.
I've not had one issue with SH3+GWX in W7, in the Programs folder too.

I am new to W7, although somewhat adept with XP as an MCP on XP. I use Norton 360 as my security suite. I have never tried to disable UAC on W7. Is it easy to do; what are the pratfalls of doing so?

Go to Control Panel, System and Security, Action Center, then under User Account Control, Choose your UAC level.
It means that you don't have to click ok every time a program wants to do something, if you run a tight ship then it shouldn't be an issue, if your security is a bit lax then probably not the best idea. If you totally rely on 360 then I'd recommend some progs like superantispyware, adaware, malwarebytes. As an MCP on XP you should be more than aware of security. ![]() ![]()

I run a fairly tight ship, a combination of hardware and software security. Nobody else has access to my PC so I have no fears of others using it and breaching the system. I think I'll experiment with it a bit. Vista and W7 have certainly introduced some new concepts.

If your the only one that uses the Computer?
Dump the UAC crap! You will be much happier and things will go much better. UAC was introduced because Mommy and Daddy were to busy to watch what the kids were loading on the Family system. So MicroSoft took on the Parental role because Mommy and Daddy are so danged busy they can't handle it. ![]() Next version of Windows will disable shuting off UAC because MicroSoft feels your not able to decide on your own what can or can not run. Plus polls show that many people shut it off and still allow dumb arsed kids on a system with no guidence. |
