LOL ok, I went from never seeing contacts to having the best 4th patrol of my NEW career (Starting with a gato) and best tonnage to date with all the years of playing SH series..
Ok that said.. lets start from the first question.. 1. I finished with my unreal patrol and of course they offered me anything I wanted.. They asked me if I wanted a new sub, because shiny new ones were rolling off the assembly line.. The only upgrade I can think of would be a Balo class.. Correct? I said no, because its weird, its only 1942 (november) and I am pretty sure Balo classes were not even out yet.. Correct? 2. The only new upgrade I saw was a Mark 23 torpedo.. I never even heard of them but from what the game description says, they are the same as a mark 14 only no speed selector, set for high speed only.. Whats up with this? should I take some? 3. I finally got used to the planes and like everyone said here "you will enjoy them eventually" And I do.. I took some heavy damage this patrol, from planes and it really added to the game, that said, does the Destoryers eventually get harder? Or is this the best I am going to get from them? It seems all I do is dive to about 350-450 feet, run silent and its like I hit the turbo button.. Basically I win no matter what. Please tell me they will get hard, REALLY HARD, like almost impossible to raid bases or the convoys will be heavily guarded and it would be crazy to try and attack.. BTW I am running TMO and RSRD GWX was great for one reason IMO (well many but my favorite reason) that in the beginning it was easy for the germans and eventually became impossible.. Now I know history is right on with this, as real life it did become impossible.. And for the Americans, it became easier in the end (I think) Its 1942 and it seems way to easy. Ok, thats enough questions for now ![]() I am really loving the hell out of this game a game that once had what SH5 has now for me.. (when it came out) Im really glad I decided to pop the disc back in recently. please tell me this game gets challenging. ![]() |

It'll get harder as the JP units upgrade their sonar/hydrophones as the war progresses. Some will even get radar.
edit: heh, wait tell you get a load of a couple of the later war escorts. It'll be raining depth charges. lol. |

I wouldn't bother with the Mk 23. It's just a Mk 14 without the low-speed/9k yd setting. I find myself using the low speed setting when setting up multiple targets in a convoy. The greater distance is a useful option to have, as well.

Mark 23 is just a Mark 14 without the low speed setting and thus has a max range of 4,500 yards. At begin of war the low speed setting was rarely used and 23 was created but as war went on and IJN ran more and better escorted convoys, Mark 14's slow speed setting was used more and more and needed, so Mark 23's were used for parts or converted into Mark 14's.Torpedo is in game, think for historical purposes.
