Yesterday I was going through my usual morning routine. Around 5:30am getting cleaned up and ready for work.
I open the front door like every morning expecting to see at least one of my two cats waiting for breakfast. The door opens and ![]() Ive seen this cat around the neighborhood before and pegged him as one of my neighbors. But this morning he was right there at the front door like he 'belonged' there all the time. Poor thing was starving and frankly mangey looking. None of 'my' cats in sight. So I made the mistake of giving him some food. What was so striking was this cats apparent familarity, he was friendly not skiddish rubbing against my leg like an old friend. Kind of spooky too in that we lost a black cat about a year ago. I was 'visiting' her grave the night before and missing my old friend when poof there is a black cat waiting at the front door ![]() Well today he is still around. It looks like we have been adopted. We are going to put up signs "Found Cat" but honestly cats dont just get up and choose another family like that.

Well that's heartwarming. Have your other two cats come back home yet?

By this time, SW, you should know that that's what cats do. You don't own a cat, you room with him. And it's his decision.
A friend of mine seems to be a cat collector. Several years back one of the many cats decided to move out, and found a new home a couple of blocks away. One of his kids reported seeing said cat on his new front porch. When cat saw kids he began yowling for them to come to his new house and let him in. Well, why shouldn't they? It was his house!

The orange cat acts as if nothing has changed. The grey cat I think is flat out freake out in that the new black cat looks alot like 'Screech' we had for 16 years and lost last year. So he (the grey cat) is giving the newcomer a wide berth.

Cats will find themselves a new home. My sister's parents in law were about to move from the UK to Australia and had to decide what to do with there animals. The dog had plenty of years left, so he was shipped to Australia, the cat was old and only had a few years left. They decided to put it down, as it would have a hard time adjusting to a new place
Two days before they were to leave, and the day they were going to take the cat to the vet to put it down, it disappeared. They were upset that the cat had run off and they couldn't say their final farewell. So they asked the neighbours to keep an eye out for the cat and flew out to Australia. Two weeks after arriving they get a call from a neighbour saying the cat has turned up, and he was able to track it to another house nearby. It turns out the cat had been living a double life and was this family's pet! They were a little taken back by their former pets double life, but quite happy to see it find a new (if you can call it that!) home. They dent the cat's vet history and some money to the "new" family. I've got a cat, a "left over" of my former wife. He sheds hair, can be selfish and always wants attention, but I wouldn't swap him for the world! |

We've exactly the same problem.
A neighbours cat comes round every day to mooch some moggy biscuits from us: ![]() He's called Toffee, but we call him Fatman. His humans are out all day, so we do give him the odd tidbit. Our cat can't stand the sight of him through the window, but when she does go out and comes face-to-face with him, she ignores him and eats grass. Here she is (my dad decided to call her Winky....): ![]() Best shot of her: ![]() ![]() Mike. ![]()
