Default Gato not in my [GWX] recognition manual

On my way out to my patrol zone I spotted a Gato sub and made an attack approach. As I was nearly in ideal firing position I had to crash dive due to an Allied patrol plane. That set the Gato to zigzagging and I abandoned the idea of attacking it.

What really puzzled me was that in my GWX recognition manual there is no entry for the Gato. I had no idea of her draft so I was going to fire a G7E at 1.5 metres running depth. In the end, thanks to the patrol plane, I have no idea if my attack would've worked.

I love how the unexpected always makes your patrols both interesting and varied.

None of the submarines are in your recognition manual, (probably because real commanders weren't expected to encounter and attack enemy subs) so you'll have to wing it. As far as torpedo attacks go I'd just keep the torpedo at minimum depth since subs don't exactly have the heaviest of plating

one time i was attacking that port north of scapa flow and there were 2 subs docked there. I knew that at that angle the impact pistols wouldnt have worked.
I looked up the dimensions of them online and looked where the waterline was, and measured off that.
I got one of them, the other one failed to detonate.

Thanks, WP. For a moment there I thought Bernard had been using my manual for toilet paper.

Have the fish run at 3-4 meters and you will be fine. Sank a british S-class by chance and it was dead in the water so easy kill, well one torpedo and like 35 DG shells later.

I agree with you all. Careful though of their deck guns. They are functional. I had a nasty expierience once , because I decided to engage a S-class with my deck gun. I sunk her but at cost of two men dead and 35% damage. That of course ended my patrol.
You will also notice that when you sink them they dont appear as kills on the map.

GWX AI Subs are not in the recognition manual because they are classed as environmental units.

Do you still get credit for the tonnage and renown?

Yes , you do take credit and renown. I don't know how much though. They appear just fine on the patrol report.

K-61 NEVER underestimate the power of loo roll!

Anyway, I've never seen an enemy sub before can they dive and use torpedeos?
