That Hitler failed because he was under the illusion that he could win anything and he probably could had he picked his enemies one by one...sadly many other modern smaller Hitlers don't share the original Hitler's illusion mostly due to insufficient real power to carry out even nearly what Hitler did which was fighting world powers that stood in his way.

These smaller Hitlers survive by being much unnoticeable but make no mistake that in their head they are as much if not more glorious that the original Hitler

Of course all Hitlers are evil

The German voted for Hitler then and he was a popular guy. Democracy never ever pick the most virtuous politician. It just picks the most popular. And there's not a tyrant that didn't begin as a popular politician and there's not a tyrant that doesn't fall into being a crook eventually and become so much corrupted that he was never the same person.

Very interesting galleries, some of the captions and comments where little bit wierd.
I recently watched the film, Hitler: the rise of evil, and i tought that it was a very dangerous film.
It depicted Hitler as an psychopath that beat puppies and generally had a wierd tone to the whole film.
Some people dont seem to understand the huge risks of lying about Hitler and the Nazis.

It becomes difficult to accuse someone who is wrong in the ranks

My talking. The chance for virtuos politicians (or capable ones), is there, but most of the time it does not deliver. Often because such candidates do not even make it to the stage.

Streamlining the masses to stand nicely aligned in rows and columns. Same thought, same mind, same perspective on things from everybody.

Oh yes, here we can agree. Nazis - and everybody doing and wishing like them even if coming under a different label.

Totalitarian conformity sucks.

Well, that's only true to some extend. The elections in 1933 were anything but fair. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_...on,_March_1933

nice photos, LIFE has always had an amazing collection and its nice to see they are putting more of them on the web. My father used to subscribe to the magazine when I was a kid and the highlight of my week was leafing though our copy, it was my window to the outside world (no internet back then).

Hitler is a fascinating figure, supposedly very charismatic. His portrayal in Downfall is how I imagine him to be. He had no problem finding very willing volunteers to carry out his most evil plans.

One question I have always wrestled with is whether there is something innate in the German character which allowed Nazis to find willing executioners to carry out the holocaust or if it could happen in any country, given the right circumstances. Unfortunately for mankind, I tend to believe the latter.

Genocide is not exclusive to Germany or the European continent.

The above link provides an acceptable Cliff's Notes overview of a number of major genocides in history.

Antisemitism resulting in violence was and has been widespread in Europe and America, often much more elsewhere than in Germany.

Something i see part of German character and culture is that they seem more efficient than most in their actions, good or bad.

same old story. "the elections were unfair, the votes were fake, Hitler was not a German...bla bla bla". face the truth pls.

this>>Wikipedia.org, mkay? in my edition it's chapters 9-11. There is one more good book but I can't recall the title atm- it's about 30 crucial days before the elections.

PS: Henry Ashby Turner, 30 days of Hitler's life or sth like that. Nothing about fake elections.
