Default Q-ships in SH5? How cool is that?

I have to admit I was getting a little cocky after my first patrol. During my second patrol, the first ship I encountered was an unescorted merchant tanker. Or so I thought! Since it was very early morning, I resorted to my usually successful tactic of surfacing close by and taking her down with the deck gun. Imagine my surprise when this "merchant" ship starts opening firing on me!

Despite my surprise, I was able to react quickly and submerge. Got away with only a little damage to my radio equipment, which was quickly repaired.

Very nice!

watch out though, The merchants in this game are way outta whack.
ive seen them turn into "escorts" they went over my sub like they were going to DC me, they circled a ship i had damaged. then they stooped all engines, i surface and fired and got killed. thankfully it autosaved, but right bfore they started firing. i kept having to reload to find ways to not only finish the damaged ship but to also slip away.

and yet none were Q ships. Q ships also must carry ALOT of guns, not just 1 or 2, cause thats just a regular merchant.

Interesting.

This ship, after I had submerged, starting zig-zagging, but continued on it's general course. It didn't try to attack me or even circle around for me to reappear.

Curiouser and curiouser!
