Default Weird graphics problem

I recently got a new laptop for school, and while it was hardly an upgrade, it's a relatively capable machine, so I decided to look for some games with relatively light requirements. Going through my old collection I came across SubCommand, which I hadn't played in years, and remembered tooling around with the DW demo. I shelled out for the game on steam, and while it runs great (and is a blast to play) I've got a weird error. Whenever the game first starts, the 3d effects don't work, everything looks like a collection of colored static boxes. Now, I can quickly fix it by going to the Display options and re-selecting the resolution. I already tried upgrading my drivers (which fixed a separate problem with the periscope display), but it didn't help. Clearly it's not a pressing issue, but it's annoying to have to refresh the display just to get it working.

On another note, its good to be back in the ocean, I've been playing the stock campaign, but learned the hard way that the first mission doesn't work with the newest LWAMI (damn Oscar), any recommendations on 3rd party missions/campaigns?

As for the first mission, try to start it several times. Position of the Oscar is random, and even with LWAMI it is sometimes outside of the detection range at the beginning (IIRC).
