...I really don't want to sit next to her for 25 days.
After a very successful patrol that took me to grid CF and then down west of Madeira to patrol the shipping coming north out of Freetown (burning through over 1/2 my fuel and all my eels in the process), I docked at the Corrientes to resupply for more action and then the trip home. This was on Feb 4 1940 in-game. I hit Exit Patrol, Dock At Corrientes, and exited the game. Updated my personnel file and reviewed my patrol log in Commander and then went into options and told it to set days in base to 1. But when I reload SH3 and my current career, it keeps showing me as In Base Before Patrol with a patrol start date of Feb 29 1940. Do I need to go back to the save I made as I approached Las Palmas and re-dock at the Corrientes to end the patrol a second time in order for the "days in base: 1" to stick? Does that have to be changed before one ends a patrol for it work when the next patrol is started? Altho I did take some damage in a convoy attack and I think my hull integrity is down to 75%, is that adding so many extra days to my time in base that it's starting at 1 and adding another 20+? Is there a way I can go into my career files and edit them manually so I still end up with a start date of Feb 5? |

Go to your SH Commander Options, select Career Options and go down to where it says "Set number of days spent in base" and select how many days you want to spend there when resuming the patrol or even between patrols. Every time I need re-supplied from either a supply ship or Milch Cow I will go to SH Commander and set it to 1 or 2 days. If I return from a long patrol I will set it at 21-40 days between active patrols while IN base. You can set this at whatever you want. I rarely let the game "decide" how long between patrols or re-supply stops.

So what I need to know is, are there career files I can edit manually to "backdate" the patrol start date, or is there a way to temporarily alter the game files controlling how many days in base are added due to damaged sustained on patrol? |

i have no idea if you could manually change the date, but if you do, wouldnt it screw with commander and the dates would be incorrect on it from then on?

![]() I've edited career files to take away the medals that SH3 awarded me that (historically) I wouldn't have gotten and it's never been a problem. But I'm looking at career files and start/end dates and number of days in base appear in so many different places that I don't know where to begin. I wonder if it would be easier just to change hull integrity back to 100% at the end of the last patrol and see what happens. |

Okay well I found I still had career files from another GWX install that I was testing mods with... so I was able to open those files and looked at where the relevant info appeared and figure out (I think) everything I had to edit in the current career's files.
Did the edits and reopened Commander which showed me at a non-home base about to start a patrol, with an in-game date of Feb 5 1940... loaded the game and it started up with me preparing to leave the Corrientes on the desired date. So, so far so good. ![]() |

I personally think the Corrientes is a lovely ship!
Don't diss her. Its like dissing my Pregnant sea cow. Oh, how I love 250 day patrols.

Two days prior to our rendezvous with the Corrientes we got a report of a convoy coming NNE out of Freetown... it was right in our path and completely unescorted aside from at least one freighter that was armed. Spent our last eels on two large merchants and a couple of ore carriers. The merchants went down after we hit them both in the first attack run... we stayed at periscope depth because it was just after sunset but we slowed the whole convoy down enough that we were able to stay with them without surfacing. Kept close and put our last two eels into the ore carriers, both of which refused to sink although one was burning and the other was listing a bit to port. Shadowed them until it got dark enough to surface (weather was completely clear, calm seas) and then wheeled back in and started shelling them with the deck gun. That's when we found out there was an armed merchant in the convoy. Twice we had to submerge to repair damage but the second time we started shelling we took out the burning ore carrier plus I'd been able to pinpoint who was firing on us before we dove. It was a small freighter on the far side of the convoy. Took care of the second round of damage and came back to p-depth from about 2 km out and managed to plot a course that put the second ore carrier right between us and the one merchant I knew for sure was armed. Surfaced and manned the deck gun straightaway and came in right towards both the ore carrier and the more distant freighter, which tried to fire on us over top of the other ship but with no success. We sank the second ore carrier without taking any more damage and then turned and headed for Las Palmas. We might've had enough fuel to make it back to Willy if we'd headed straight for home, but with no eels in the tubes and the Corrientes being only coupla days away... why not resupply and see how much fun we can have on the way back? ![]() We have over 44000 GRT so far on patrol 4/5, bringing our total for the war to date to somewhere around 92000. And my neck is getting really itchy for some reason. |

Sounds like you're good to go. I would guess it was the damage. The game always adds time for repairs.
Also you don't have to set Days In Base to 1. From the SH3 Commander User Guide: 2.6.0 (6 Jul 2006) "Added ability to recognise when docked at a milk cow or other friendly base and automatically adjust the number of days spent in base to 1 (plus any extra days required to repair damage)"

From SH3 Commander manual, page 13-14:
3. SH3 Commander automatically recognises when you are docked at a milk cow or other friendly base and will automatically adjust the number of days spent in base to 1 without you needing to manually change via the SH3 Options screen. You can click on the label to toggle status. *Note that extra days will be added if damage needs to be repaired; this is a limitation imposed by Silent Hunter III. I think 1% of hull integrity is one additional day. But I am not sure. Cheers, LGN1 |

Slight tangent, apologies in advance
![]() Could the real-life U-boats pick up torpedoes at supply ships, or just refuel? |

I have heard it said here that yes, they could give you some torpedoes, but probably not a full loadout.
