Default Manual TDC multiple Targets?

So, finally found a sweet lookin convoy, 10 may 1943, and only 1 escort.

i have their approx speed of 5-6 knots, and they're about 18nm away. im set up on a course to intercept and get a good side shot. i have a full load of 6 mk23's in the front tubes.

and while im pretty good at hittin a single target out to about 2000y using the fast-90 method, the mk14's have been hamperin my kills. so, first off, how are the mk23's? i know its before the mk14 fixes so did the mk23's suffer the same problems that the mk14's did?

oh and, using the fast-90, how can i target multiple targets and get somewhat simultaneous hits? its a 2 column convoy. i cant use the speed fast/slow method like on a mk14 because the mk23's only have the fast method.

also, since once i fire i know the DD is gunna head my way, i grabbed a couple of those mk27 Cutie torps, how are those? the 95 lbs of explosive should at least annoy the DD right? lol

Unless you're playing stock the cuties are worthless.

Go back to the skippers bag of tricks, several video's about multiple targets.

I seldom use a 90 degree attack on multiples. About the best way is to shoot slow ones first, then fast ones regardless. There are basic formulas for distance, time and speed to sorta figure out when to time shots. I think it's in the tricks thread. Course you about have to pause to figure, so I don't use it, just guess. Course you're stuck with the same speed with the 23's...so it's shoot furthest first, then a ship closer. The 23's have the same problems....no luck there

I'll try to find the math formula and post it, but check out the video's.

Obvious weather conditions, time of day will have some effect, moreso if you're using a harder supermod. One ship see's the torp, they all will go into evade mode.

It's fun, but I no longer care about hitting targets at the exact same time, usually within a 6 seconds is good enough.

yea, i just figured hittin 2 within 5 or so seconds of each other is good, nothin like "its gotta be down to milliseconds" just enough so i can hit 2 and sink 2 before they begin evading since hitting a zig-zagging target for me has proved impossible lol.

The best thing to remember about multiple targets is that initially (before the booms start) they all share the same course. Of course, depending on their bearing, their AoBs are all different.

However, in the outer ring of the AoB dial you can directly read the target course. NOW you don't need the AoB any more. Just shoot your first target, sight on the second, get a range with the stadimeter if you're using the cursed thing, press send range/bearing, change the AoB dial to read the correct course and you're ready to go for target #2.

I share the tactics of the real boats and very seldom take shots on multiple targets on the same approach. Lotsa stuff can happen when you do that and most of them are bad. I hit, run, end around to the other side and hit again, over and over until the sun rises or there is nothing left to shoot. Once the torps are out of the tubes I'm turning tail to run.

To get the run times, you can put in the problem for the lead target, then look at the attack map, which will show you the run time of the torpedo. Normally this would be displayed as run length on the gyro angle solver, but it's missing from the game. Then put in the second problem and look at the attack map again. If the lead target would take 2m 53s to hit and the second target 3m 15s, then subtract one from the other to give you the firing interval approximately. As you are using the 3D TDC, you can enter the target course directly and precisely, without having to eyeball the AoB dial. Use the radar unit to put in the precise ranges too.
