Stumbled across this on facebook.

The claim is, that a Discovery Channel Documentary determined through DNA testing that there is a 99.6% probability that King Tut was Western European.

never heard of this... and i dont know anything more about it than that.

very interesting if true. according to the article... the greatest probability is that his ancestry originated somewhere in the vicinity of the European region now described as Ireland, Scotland, western England or Northern France.

Its believable. Many rulers of Egypt were not natives. The Ptolomy dynasty was of Greek descent, most notably Cleopatra 7.

But that's only after they surrendered to Alexander's conquering army. I've never heard of prior foreign Egyptian kings, especially from places which were at the time practically beyond the edge of the world for the Eastern Mediterranean civilizations...

Thats true. Tut has always been a bit of a mystery. He is the supposed son of Akhenaten and Nefertiti, though there are theories that he is the illigitimate son of Akhenaten and another woman. Also Akhenatan was a bit of a strange character himself. His actions almost seem like those a foriegner would take. He changed the capitol, he tried to do away with many of Egypt's traditions, and he tried to change the religion to one of monotheism. He was not well liked and upon his death Egyptians tried to erase him from history. There is speculation that Tut was murdered on account of him. Another possibility is that Nefertiti was foriegn. Not much is known about her in terms of her bloodline and where she comes from. It could be any number of possibilities. Also, given the ancients accomplishments, I wouldn't doubt thier ability to travel great distances.

If the theory that all mankind descended from Africa and spread through out the world is true, which is likely, I'd find Tut's European heritage to be plausible. There are just so many different possibilities. The chief of antiquities in Egypt has not released thier dna findings as of yet so this story is still very much speculation.

I thought this was common knowledge already. Tut was clearly a western European; you need only look at his death mask to know that. Is it:

-Covered in gold?
Check.
-Sporting flamboyant facial hair style?
Check.
-Clad in a shockingly bad hat?

Hmm I think the most obvious answer is that the DNA sample was contaminated by foreign DNA, probably from the people taking it, the people who handled the Mummy, or the testers. Especially as it is, to my knowledge, very difficult to get DNA from a source like that.

If there would actually be some civilizations in western europe at that time it would be plausable. But it was mostly barbarian. Not the barbarians were less inteligent or anything, but it takes a civilized man to rule a civilization.
But there are always theories, maybe he was plunder from a raid in the western europe or freed slave that showed high intelligence and understanding and was chosen over the predecesors biological sons, if there were any (to lazy to google it up) and there's always the atlantis theory
