Closing the lid usually makes the laptop go into sleep mode or hibernate or whatever it is called. Games do not like that when they are running. Atleast, older games used to. DW is not much different than Subcommand graphics wise. A solution would be to go to the power setting in configuration panel in windows and see if you can find a option that says what the laptop does when you close the lid. (What Windows version do you have?) 'Nothing' would keep the machine awake, it however does maintain a high power consumption . Which may drain you battery if it is not plugged in. (and perhaps cooling problems due to bad circulation/heat radiation)
And if you want to go away from your laptop for a while, why not save the game before you do it? Loosing 3 hours of game-play is preventable.

Spot on. The only way to prevent the problem I-25 is having is simply save the mission and exit the game before putting the portable to hibernate/suspend. |

When I use Nvidia video card(9800GTX+), I encountered similar problem time to time: Graphics Layer Detected Problems. but if often happen when I check 3d model in USNI REFERENCE
later, change AMD video card 5870, this kind of thing never happen again therefore, I guess this is some kind of card driver problem for support DW since you use Intel Intergrated-videocard, I suggest you try to roll back you video card diver to pre-2008 version, or update to the latest version, 2 direction try |

Well then it's probably a temperature thing. There are applications (like speedfan) that can measure the cpu/case temperature and fan speeds when it runs in the background. See if you can get a temperature graph/log and look what happends if the lid is closed but the game keeps running.
But the best advise I can give is simply save whenever you're done for the moment.
