You know I don't think ol' Ringo gets quite enough credit as a drummer. I read a couple years ago about some fun testing they did where they got a group of people together and played them the (isolated) drum tracks from a bunch of classic rock songs.

Far and away, more Beatles tunes were correctly identified by more people just from the drum tracks than recordings by anyone else.

Of course I don't know diddley about the fine art of drumming* but I sure do like his beats.

And I guess this means John would've been 70 come October. *sniff*

As a boy growing up in the 1980s there is one thing that I associated with Ringo Starr long before I heard of the Beatles...

One of Ringo's first vocal ventures was a Beatles cover of Carl Perkins' 'Honey Don't', which appeared on Beatles For Sale (US Beatles '65). Perkins liked hearing other people doing his songs, and here they are together.
