A new solo 'Alien' movie is in the works and it appears to be a prequel of the 1979 Ridley Scott classic.

Muß das sein?

Only sequels and prequels and remakes from Hollywood currently, it seems. Alien 3 already was boring. Alien 4 simply was terrible. Terribly bad, that is.

Wise decision by Ridley Scott not to direct, and leave producing it to his brother (financially it probably will be reasonably successful, since curiosity will drive people into the cinemas). However I wait for Ridley Scott's realisation of "The Forever War". That could become a feast, eventually. He tried 15 years or even longer just to get the rights, it really is heart's business for him, he said.

Alien and Aliens was good... should have probably stopped there.

Alien 3 was not great, but i wouldnt label it as boring.

I think this will be sort of an "Alien: Origins" film

fans of the original series know - that the "alien" eggs were found on a derelict spacecraft on the planet "LV426" - this spacecraft was not of earth origin.

perhaps this film will explain how the derelict spacecraft came to rest on the LV426 planet?

Yeah, I think that will be the biggest appeal of the movie: filling in the blanks in the storyline. Since humans had no previous contact with the Aliens before the events of the first movie, it's possible it details how the derelict alien ship ended up there, leading to the first movie's events, or perhaps the struggle of another race against an Alien infestation (probably bit of both). Should make for an interesting plot either way.

Arclight - cool name

i'll expand on what you added.

In aliens, the marines have to use their tools of the trade creatively to fend off scores of alien aggressors.

if we did see a previously unknown intelligent alien race fighting for survival against the "aliens" it would be interesting to see how they deal with the threat - what creative ways they come up with to deal with the alien species.

Yes, it would! The trouble is that many times they don't go for interesting plots or good plots, they to bad one that in their mind would make a lot of money!

At least it's a prequel, I read it some where that they were thinking of doing a remake of the first film!

As always.

What I'm wondering is how the eggs got on board the alien spacecraft. Is it just the brood of the Alien that sprung forth from the alien creature, or were they transporting them? If so, for what? Biological weapon?

Maybe that alien race fought off an Alien infestation, and is transporting the last of it's brood... somewhere, in an attempt to save a species from extinction (respect for life, yadayada, ridiculous, I know).

Oh oh, one race creates aliens as bio weapon to wipe out another race, they fight back the Aliens and send a ship with eggs to return the favor, but the ship crashes, leading to well known events... I should write scripts. :rotfl:

Yeah, I agree, another race battling the Aliens and seeing how they deal with it would make it interesting... As long as it doesn't degrade to alien space marines blasting thousands af Aliens with gattling laser guns and over the top hollywood effects.

Thanks, likewise.

It's a reference to my favorite movie, though I don't think many people spot it. The avatar is a clue. 10pts. to whoever names it.

Shows that I think too deeply. I noticed the name and just simply thought of Archlight which is what they called B-52 bombing missions aginst VC areas in South Vietnam and figured someone from Holland who likes B-52s and knows about thier history.

Funny though as that is a good part in the movie when they hear them.Speaking of remakes/directors cuts Redux is damn good if you ask me I love that French plantation and when they catch up with the Bunnys wish I could have seen it in a theater back 2000 but I was in germany then and they did not have it at the Air Base theater or the Broadway Kino which showed a few english movies for all the americans they also had beer at that one I did see Run Lola Run(Lola Rennt) back in 98 or so at the Kino with my now wife it was cool I got 5% of what was said after several beers I understood everything.Alien is the best by far of that series after Aliens that train got de-railed Id say.

I'm pretty disappointed that R. Scott isnt directing it.

As for the plot, IMHO, the origins of the Aliens should remain a mystery, same for the derelict spaceship. They'll just frack the story up somehow.

I'd like to see the story centering around the Hadley's Hope colony on LV426 just before the story of Aliens. But then again, part of me wants it to remain mystery too, as it gives the Aliens abit creepier feel to it not knowing what, when and how the colony was overrun.

Hell, to think of it, I dont know what there really is to add to the story that wouldnt either give too much away and ruin the series or just plain suck.

@Arclight

It's pretty obvious from the first movie that the derelict spaceship was indeed transporting the eggs, they are under some stasis field thingy (the blueish smoke). I'd guess to keep the eggs from hatching, the moment Kane slips down to the containment area, I think it somehow disrupts the stasis thus allowing the egg to hatch (dont ask me why all of them didnt hatch, tho ).

If they are going to make another one they should stick with the original recipe that worked: group of people in a contained space (space ship), some corrupt business entity pulling the strings (Weyland-Yutani in 1&2) and a bad-ass alien or aliens. Somehow just get back to that original claustrophobic, futuristic-yet-realistic feel of the original. IMO the only one who could do it is R. Scott, everyone else will just mess it up.

Part 3 was made with this recipe and well, some like it and some don't. I liked it, haven't seen the longest edition with the bull instead of a dog. Part 4 was just terrible.
