I don't know what's wrong. I don't think I've changed anything from a few months back when this was working for me.
I have the latest Trigger Maru installed and a jumble of radio files and I never did get to work. Is there an easy fix or do I need to uninstall/reinstall for the 8th time? ![]() Thank you. |

If you install mods, it does not work right away. You will need to go to "dock" to have it effective.

Hey thanks for the welcome. I am enthralled with this aspect of history and was amazed to find a community of this size and this kind of support for the Silent Hunter series.
Honestly I've been having other problems as well so reinstalling everything is probably the way to go. Perhaps it's in the order I installed? 1. TriggerMaru_Overhaul_19 2. TMO19_Patch_081209 When I begin a campaign I'm briefed for a mission, but no matter where I start the objective on the map is always the same. I'm pretty much a newb at SH4 in all respects. I'm practicing the Dick O'Kane manual targeting method in one of the sub school missions with some success. Because I have never seen a convoy in the campaign. I refuse to play the stock game. I want a fun and accurate experience and I chose TMO some months back. Perhaps that's not the mega mod to go with? Is it the most hardcore? What mega mod would you guys suggest? I want to be able to play through a campaign and have my missions change and stuff. What about the latest and most up to date TMO with the Run Silent, Run Deep Campaign on top of that? (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1414) I want to focus on becoming a better captain without wondering if my game files are all effed up. Oh, and I would like my radio stations I downloaded to work in game... Is there any Vent server out there where a bunch of guys play SH4? Thank you so much for the help. ![]() Generic Mod Enabler - v2.3.1.132 Windows XP Pro SP3 |

Welcome to the boat mate.
![]() From the sounds of it you are interested in a challenging game experience. TMO should be just what you want but you might go with the newest 2.0 version. It's very playable but challenging as is, nothing needs to be added. RSRD is a very good realism mod but you need to know your history and where the convoys and big battles are. Takes some time to learn this. TMO traffic layer is good to start with, than maybe go with RSRD later. The mission assignments are nothing to brag about in any case, I just go with them start a patrol and than freelance after completing one or two. If you have Vista or Win 7 some tips. Don't put the game on Programs Files. Make a separate SH 4 folder. Run everything as administrator. Launch the game with SH4.exe not the default GU.exe. with any OS. Fred has all the info on radio mods in this thread. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=119668 Magic

Hey thanks Magic. Have the latest Trigger Maru installed and it looks like even more has been added since the last update. I don't remember seeing this cup of coffee next to my map.
![]() I'm on my second patrol now. Area 7 in Feb. 1942 is where they're sending us. Now if I can just survive my first run in with a destroyer I'll be happy. Correct me if I'm wrong but the enemy's sonar is not so effective at this time right? |

Don't count on it, Mid December 41 in the Luzon Area I managed to sneek around the escorts and get 2 freighters but after that they were all over me while I was 250 down on silent running trying everything to get away.

lol Great... Shoot and dive dive dive right? That's all I can do.
It's assumptions like the one in my previous post that are going to get my crew and I killed! ![]() Is there a consolidated reference chart or list of basics hidden somewhere in the forums? I'm running the latest Trigger Maru... ![]() How come while flanking a small convoy, I could see smoke from two freighters on the horizon while my crew could make no visual? Are they inexperienced or is there a maximum range? And can enemy planes really only spot you from a maximum of 5 nm? I would have thought they'd be able to spot you from a longer range. Especially on calm water. Sooo many questions... ![]() Thanks. |

Welcome Loose End;
The video tutorials in the Skippers Bag of Tricks forum should help you a lot. Spotting the enemy is a two-way street. Sometimes you'll see the smoke on the horizon before your crew whereas other times they'll spot stuff you can't make out yet (particularly in hazy weather or rough weather). Just something you have to get used to in the game. You'll find the same type of thing with sonar. Sometimes your sonar operator will say "no sound contact" but when you check yourself you can hear something etc. One thing to be aware of; if you get a ship spotted but can't make out anything and nothing on sonar, it may be fishing vessels which use sail and therefore are; a. quiet, and b. small. Aircraft too can be unpredictable but IMHO that's not unrealistic. I have had occasions where I can see an aircraft crossing our path well behind us or well in front of us and it continues on its merry way without "seeing" us but other times they'll be tooling along in the distance and then bank in your direction (and you'd be wise to immediately crash dive). Do not wait to try and see what type of aircraft it is, it may be too late, get your butt underwater fast. Be advised that TMO allows the aircraft to 'see' your sub underwater for a fair depth (up to 100ft IIRC) so 150ft depth is a good minimum depth to aim for when crash diving (160ft is default for crash dive anyway). |
