I normally play manual targeting and love it but thinking for a different gameplay, next patrol I will enable auto target but disable map contacts and external view(usually have external view off anyway) Since conning the boat into a good attack position was the Captain's job and had tracking party etc to get the speed etc ready and called AOB himself with observations.
Anyway, just curious if anyone ever figured out how to remove the stupid triangles in auto target? if so, how to do this with TMO? |

This question was brought up a long time ago, and unfortunately I recall it being said it was one of those hardcoded things. It would be pretty cool actually, because in reality the Captain would not be doing all the calculations that we manual targeters must do. That triangle kills the whole mood of the attack because it looks so damned arcadish!

It's also true that you would not have the running real-time update in front of you all the time. The ideal solution was the "assistance" in SH3, except that it was way to perfect.
In real life the calculations were based on the captain's observations, so if he was wrong the solution would be wrong as well. I think an ideal solution to the problem would be a WE Assistance sort of thing, but the first time you obtained it you would have no speed and a range and AOB that might be off. Repeated observations of the same target would increase the accuracy, but there would still be a chance of it being off.
