Default A change of tone in British Afghanistan policy?

New British defence minster Liam Fox put it very nicely:

Quote:
...Fox said that Britain was not a “global policeman” and emphasised that the mission in Afghanistan, was about making British streets safer rather than mending the education system of a “broken 13th Century country”.
His comments are at odds with what the foreing minister had to say. However - With Labour's Miliband saying that Afghanistan was the primary reason why Labour lost the election so clearly, chances are that the new British coalition govenrment will implement more or less drastic changes to the Afghanistan policy.

Maybe also under the impression that this war costs money and that money is something that is becoming thin for Britain. (On a sidenote: I read today that Hawai has introduced the four-day week four public schools, because they cannot pay for more anymore).

Also another reminder that is easier to "brake" a country than "fix" it ...

Ya got to be kidding. Labour lost because they were rubbish, nothing to do with Afghanistan. I think most people in the UK can accept the Afghan war. It was not high up on the agenda when voting. Just shows how rubbish a foreign minister he was. What do you expect of a guy who has had no job outside of party research since he finished university.

Agree with the above.

Also I don't see a radical change in British policy in Afghanistan under the new coalition gov. Britian is not going to exit the coaltion or undertake a complete pullout from Afghanistan and time soon (2-5 years) IMO. Gradual force reduction most likely in line with actual conditions on the ground.

And while I am at it the quicker we have a new election and dump these Lib dems the better.
