Hi,
I've had SH4 for a while, but never really got into it. I have started a new career, and am really enjoying it (must have more patience now or something)...really makes you feel like you're there! I haven't got into realistic TDC yet (I still let the crew do that), but I am trying to act as a real skipper might have done. Had a great mission searching for contacts off the Marshall Islands yesterday. Gave up after ages searching and only finding American ships (is there a way to figure out what lanes the Japanese ships use, other than going by contact reports?), moved closer to Java and eventually came across two Japanese ships being escorted by three destroyers. I managed to sink both freighters with 6000 yard shots, before sneaking off un-detected...very satisfying! Anyway - to my question. I am on a mission where I need to drop off an agent at Osaka, and am trying to work out the best way to approach, given that it's deep in Japanese waters. Trying to think how a real skipper might have done it, I decided that when I get close to Japan, I would run under the surface (at 1/3 speed) as long as possible during daylight, then wait till it's dark and run on the surface to recharge the batteries, getting as far as possible before daylight and having to submerge again. I managed to get into Hiroshima harbour to take some photos on a previous mission using this approach, but running into Osaka, I've already been targetted by a shore battery at night, and forced to submerge when I've only got 10% battery left. Any thoughts would be appreciated. When running on the surface at night, is it best to keep as far from land as possible? I was staying close to the coast to try and avoid any shipping. Thanks |
