I have a similar problem that made me to hate him very much. After patch I used his special ability to reveal everything on surface. Since then I can't make him to shut the hell up. Even under 150m he is screaming that he see smokes on the horizon and he gives me bearings every 10 seconds when I encounter a convoy. He is sooo anoying that I have to play with the sound turned off
![]() I wish a moder can make something about, maybe a mod that actually unlink the events from the voices. We all was dreaming to have a living crew aboard, now I wish to see them dead, all. |

Rickster;
This is one of my biggest complaints.....I have visual contact, I can hear the ship on Hydro/sonar, underwater with engines off, but Sonar man says "no sound conact".. ![]() Is the periscope depth a problem? Are we the only ones? No one else is complaining about this. Can modders fix this?

Several times operator would hear targets at 25m deep, only to have them disappear when rising to periscope depth. Drop back down to 20m-25m and they reappear. I attribute this to enviromental surface noise. In other words a ''feature'' instead of ''hey, this game is porked''. I suppose it could go either way.

you had that problem in SH3 and 4 as well where the sonarman would say "no contacts" when you can plainly hear them.
I always man the sonar myself to doublecheck. Be sure to drop the speed to zero, since in SH5, unlike the previous versions, background noise is modeled. The faster the boat moves, the more background noise increases, drowning out the fainter noises. you can also look at this, if you want a more talkative soundman: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166593 By default, your soundman will only update contacts once every 60 seconds. If you drop the time for precise contacts to 15 seconds and imprecise contacts to 180 secs (what I use), he will report contacts on a more regular basis.

This has been a problem since day 1 of the SH series. The current contact info will take priority over other contact info. I've never seen this fixed by modders nor devs. It appears one contact type at a time will only display (or be seen by your crew).
For example .... Your sub is on the surface and your contact is outside visual and hydrophone range and your metox picks ups radar signals ... displays green directional line. As you approach, the contact is in visual range now (and hydrophone) so the green line disappears (visual over radar and hydrophone). You dive to periscope depth (thus losing visual) and the hydrophone bearing replaces the visual contact. You raise the scope and regain visual contact and your hydrophone bearing line disappears. This "one-contact-at-a-time" appears to work visa-versa when the Escorts workout Unknowns etc ... one unknown at a time .... one submarine contact at a time ... until the old one expires or becomes new. Hope that helps ... All my observations btw. Rob |
