I think it is apparent now, even to the most strident UBI supporters among us, that if anything decent comes of this game, it will be because of the modders. UBI's approach, from development to release to communications to support has been nothing short of disgraceful... demonstrating an unbelievable arrogance and utter disdain for their customers.
But, as as i've said elsewhere, I'm a bit torn about that... the modders to the rescue I mean. On one hand I really want a good sub sim to play, and I very much appreciate the efforts made by (a relatively few) talented folks willing to put in the time and work to make that happen. On the other hand it is maddening to think that, because of those modders, UBI will be associated with a quality product to which they have no rightful claim. To make matters worse, some of that undeserved benefit will be in the form of $$$... improved sales numbers. So I was thinking... you know what would serve UBI right? When/if the much hoped for super mod - that finally turns this bucket of dreck into a real game - makes it's appearance, it would be great if one of the mods included was an alteration to the title graphics and opening movie sequences. If it were up to me I would completely obliterate any reference to UBI and the name Silent Hunter, and substitute... something. Anything. When the game loads, it should be plain as plain could be, that the goodness you are about to experience comes, not because of UBI, but in spite of them. $0.02 JD |
