Default Game won't play after Hard Drive failure

Hi folks, looking for helpful suggestions. Last week I was loading the game to resume my career, was almost finished (at the not so long ago) screen, & my computer crashed.

A pal fixed it, the HD was only 15% healthy. He recovered all my general files & data ok. For general usage/internet, everything seems to be fine.

But when playing SH3, it gets part way through loading, then drops back to the desktop screen. I tried deleting a couple of career save stages. No difference. Deleted the last patrol,- same result.

So I tried a new career.....got as far as part-loading the 1st Mission, crashed back to Desktop.

I'm using a UK disc, & the full GWX 3.0 enhancement & JSGME.

Technically on computers & I know sod-all so if you offer help bear that in mind.....

cheers
Gary

Uninstall using the option from the game disc.

Delete the SH3 folder in C\MyDocs.

Perform a registry clean....I use Regvac there is a free trial period version below:

http://www.regvac.com/fregvac.htm

Reinstall the game and patch to v1.4 (if its not already patched on the disc).

Follow the comprehensive installation instructions on the GWX website (click on my sig).

Any problems flag em up here, there are many who will do their best to help you.

Good Luck

Not for the 1st time with this sort of stuff, I'm going round in f' circles.
I've uninstalled & re-installed SH3. I did have the 1.4 patch, but not sure I was utilising it. So in order to dowload the correct one I started the game to get to the main menu to check which version I have.....
I've still got the GWX 3.0 expansion pack (programme?) & it's taking over. It's not doing anything, not launching the game, but I don't know how to get rid of it....

Skiffy please. (off to bed now though)

Divvun get vexed, we will sort this out.

If you are unsure whether it is patched you should not have the GWX mod installed....either that or you have not uninstalled as per my previous post.

What OS do you have? (please say XP or XP Pro).

List each operation/action you have performed thus far.

Gulp!.....well I guess I had the patch working because I had been using the GWX 3.0 with the expansion pack.

The problem was the hard drive failed. Ended up only 15% healthy.

I uninstalled SH3. Used the above-recommended registry cleaner. The jsgme enabler is still left, but all the mods have been deleted by the processes used.
Re-installed SH3.
Wanted to download 1.4b patch, needed to know type, tried to start SH3 to get to game menu to identify my version.......

but the Expansion Pack screen appears, loads-up until the red "time bar?" finishes......& nothing else happens.

Is the above intelligible?

Not entirely I'm afraid....sorry.

Start again....use the disc to uninstall then delete the SH3 folder in C\MyDocs. Check with add/remove programmes utility on your pc.

Carry on with reg clean etc. etc.

I don't understand....the JSGME is an integral part of GWX, are you installing it a second time? If so....don't....delete EVERYTHING before attempting an install.

You still haven't advised what your OS is.
