I was just down there on 45th and 8th ave performing a play. Came out around 10ish and it was jammed pack with people. I thought, "what is this, some damn holiday?" Didn't find out what the fuss was till I got home.

Thankfully the bugga didn't go of....the 'amatuerish' ones can often be the most dangerous.

I'll never understand what goes through the minds of these people.

Aye, me neither. I remember the '96 Docklands car bomb, thankfully the IRA would warn in advance sometimes, and they did in this case so only two died, but it was still a helluva mess and Times Square is a major tourist spot so it would have been bloody alright.
Good work NYPD.

Mhm. To heck with Al'Qaida, those guys we can keep an eye on. It's lone extremists who plot in their dark basements who scare me. Firearms are readily available in both America and Europe, and in this day and age, anyone with a rudimentary Internet connection can locate and download instructions on how to create explosives. Just about anyone can go out there and just start killing people.

What does the availability of guns have to do with anything? The comment of "bomb instructions can be downloaded from the internet" means that anywhere with the internet is subject to some loon making a bomb. Whether the place has "availability to guns" or not doesn't matter one whit.

If you want to outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them.....

Kudos to the responders for a job well done!

And a special thanks to the T-shirt vendor who gave a crap.

Dude, they can't get laid. And they think 72 virgins are waiting for them in heaven.

Well, I guess I'm talking about suicide bombers, but you know what I'm talking about.

EDIT: some of you may think I'm jumping to conclusions, but if these weren't jihadists, I'd be surprised. After all, Times Square is a defining icon of Americana (and to a lesser extent, Western civilization)

I am putting my money on that this crime was committed by a disgruntled American citizen.

Taleban already claimed responsibility but thats worth could be the same as people confessing murders they didnt commit to police.

Looks more probable that that it was someone acting alone with more zeal than capability.

True. I know how to make explosives, but I have no desire to. I figured it out when I was a kid, just because I was curious. That was before the internet. I spent a lot of time in the library.

I think Platapus may be right. Someone with anger issues. Not too bright though.

@Torvald, I know that's what they think, but it's very illogical thinking. Who needs, or really wants 72 virgins. I've had my share of women and I'm not too desperate now I'll tell you!

I hope no one does get hurt at Times Square.

Someone angered by getting his job offshored so the corporate CEO could get a slightly larger bonus?

The pakistani taliban have taken credit for it. Probably BS, my bet is a local Muslim.

Note the building it was next to Viacom. Might be unrelated, Times Square is a busy place, but Viacom... (South Park).

Regardless, we should be dropping JDAMs on the taliban in response. Anyone taking credit for a terror attack deserves to be killed regardless.
