Hello Captains! This is my first post in this forum although IŽve been lurking around for some years since I started to play this fantastic game.
About a month ago I bought a new pc (os: Windows 7 64bit, Intel Core i3 2.93 Ghz, Graphic: NVidia GeForce GT 220) and about the first things I did was to install SH3 +GWX Gold +SH3 Commander (Great mods btw!). ALthough quite complicated I managed to run it in Windows 7. It worked fine until the infamous Black sky problem occured. I supposed I had forgot to roll back SH3 commander during the install of the (GWX) 16km Atmosphere mod. I rolled back Commander and uninstalled the mod, but the problem was still there. After having read another thread with similar subject (http://174.123.69.202/~subsimc/radio....php?p=1335092) I uninstalled SH3 completely in order to make a fresh reinstall from the start. I deleted the SH3 folder in the Ubisoft directory and the gamefolder in My Documents to make sure every trace of the previous istall was gone. I reinstalled the game, making the same steps I did the first time, but still that black sky seems to haunt me, even in Vanilla mode with no GWX or SH3 Commander installed yet. I have also noticed that starting a single mission in Vanilla mode results in an instant CTD. From what I have read It seems that corrupted gamefiles can remain in the computer even after the uninstalling of the game. I just do not understand where these files are hiding and how to get rid of them. Or may there be another problem? If someone has an idea on how to solve this problem I would be very thankful. I just love this game and have to get it running again.... (Oh, btw I have the European DVD-version of the game) Thanks in advance! /Anton |

I do not have the same OS as you (mine is XP Pro) but you should uninstall using the function on the game disc and perform a registry clean with a reputable piece of software.
I use regvac but I honestly don't know if it will work on your OS. I sincerely hope it does because there is a free trial period version below: http://www.regvac.com/fregvac.htm |

windows is probably storing the install in a hidden folder called virtual store, i cant remember exactly where it is but it is mentioned in the gwx manual.
Although this virtual store thing is a vista issue its probably the same on win7 since theyre essentially the same os. |

Thank you guys for the fast replies!
Jimbuna: IŽll try RegVac as soon I can, then I let you know of the result. FlakMonkey: IŽll check the GWX manual on how to find this hidden folder. Thanks again! / Anton |

Hi all!
This is my happiest day for a long time! Thanks to you guys I got the game running, perfectly, again and the sky is bluer than ever! Flakmonkey: I located the Virtualstore folder and deleted the SH3 files. I guess that was the main problem. Thanks a million! /Anton |

Sorry, may be I didn't quite get it.
That Virtual Store, is it a Windows Vista thing or is it also on Windows XP Pro ? If yes, Where do you find it ? Thank you. |

Hi there!
IŽm from Sweden so IŽll try to translate as good as I can. I use Windows 7 but the procedure may be quite similar to Vista or XP. First you have to activate the "show hidden files and folders" option in windows: First go into the Controlpanel, then choose Appearance and adaption. Then click on Folder options. Choose the tag "view". Then look in "Advanced settings" and there youŽll find "show hidden files and folders". When you have selected the option youŽre lokking for:: 1 Go to C:, 2 "Users" 3 your "name" 4 Appdata 5 Local 6 Virtualstore 7 Programfiles (or something like that...) 8 Delete the Ubisoft/SH3 map Good luck! /Anton |
