Default Assisted targeting changes?

Hey guys. It had been a while since i played a Silent Hunter game so I decided to start without manual targeting. Seems to be a bit wonky now or maybe they changed it. Usually when the triangle turned green it was a good solution on your target. However today all my eels are firing way behind. Even when I wait for green at the bow of the ship. In SH3 I would usually fire around when the middle of the ship turned green. Doing that now means a huge miss.

Anyone else notice this? I know alot of you guys use manual more often then not. oh and yeah my crew all had good morale if that makes a difference.

thanks!!

Dont lock the target, just put the crosshair over the target and fire.
If you lock the target you need to enter the necessary tdc data.

Not exactly correct. This is how i do it. Get the ship you want to hit in the periscope x hairs hit lock then hit unlock now you will see a line that is where the torpedo is going to intersect with the ship

Yeah that's how I do it. Lock the target , then unlock , aim at where you want to hit and fire.

thanks Robbo. so now that the line is there do you wait until the target crosses the line or turn the boat so the line is intersecting with where you want to hit him? sorry for the dumb questions. just not used to this new system. in SH3 the green triangle was usually correct.

also what do the 1-2-3 #'s mean that are along the line?

thanks again!!

Hiya matey,

Where possible I always try to approach at a 90 degree angle to the target, this means I have the best AOB and less chance of missing (though I still do lol) I lock the target, unlock and using the crosshairs on the periscope I aim at the precise location I want the torp to hit. That's all I do and it seems to work more than it doesn't .

Have a look at this thread

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=164131

It's the tutorial for aiming torpedos and using the TDC , it covers both manual and auto and will probably answer most if not all your questions.

The numbers system is what people here call "joining the dots" basically when your number lines up with the same number coming off the ship you have a sweet shot.

I believe that is also covered in more detail in that thead too.

i like the new auto system after watching that video. makes it not so 'dumb' as the past system. not near as tough as manual of course, but adds a little extra challenge to the people that prefer auto. good stuff

it is odd though that the torpedoes will change course depending on where your periscope is aimed. i didnt realize they would do that and when i fired my torps turned 45 degrees. lol

Yep, that's what I do. Not always possible...but preferred firing position is to get well ahead of target along it's estimated course then sitting in wait at periscope depth with target crossing my bow at 90deg, range 300-700 metres.

Of course we can't always have our own way when you add poor visibilty, destroyers, aircraft into the equation....hahaha

My feelings too - a bit more work, but not as hard as manual
