Default P-791 Hybrid Airship

http://www.military-heat.com/91/p791...rship-project/

If I were FABULOUSLY rich, I'd have a personal airship, and stay in the air most of the time. My life would be a Miyazaki movie!!

Heheheh...yeah!! I noticed that, too. It would probably perform differently if it were carrying a full fuel/freight load, not being quite such a rootless balloon.

On the bright side, it probably wouldn't need quite such a long runway for delivering freight. I suspect that is somewhere in the article, which I didn't actually read. I just skipped to the movie!!!

Definitely.

Really wish someone would start building old-style passenger Zeppelins again...

A bad one probably, but still...

Another reason for their decline is the delicate ground handling and relatively high vulnerability to meteorological conditions
and they overcame these issues how??

Airships are cool, but the statement 'when pigs fly' comes to mind when watching the video.

Interesting, innovative idea. Wonder how well it would hold up in Antarctica?

On the side, I lol'd when I read through the comments:

I don't think so. Most locations where a heavy load would need to be carried could still be serviced by a combo of ship/train/chopper.

Now, the military might very well have a need to carry a heavy load 12K NM and drop it on a mountaintop, but not most civilian entities.
