Someone posted a thread on here last week (tried to find and can't) about U-Boats sinking Brit subs and vice versa. Apparently there was only one recorded ever. Below is a very interesting article about sub on sub combat from WW1. Makes pretty good reading actually.

Nice reading. Thanks.
The Dutch submarine o-21 sank U95, so it was not the only sub-sub battle. ![]() http://www.dutchsubmarines.com/speci..._moonlight.htm |

U-864 was sunk by HMS Venturer in the only known incident in all of naval warfare in which one submarine sinks another while both are submerged.

As people quickly posted in the past thread on the subject there were no u-boat vs. u-boat sinkings, but quite a few cases with u-boats vs. allied submarines and vice versa(over 20). Links etc. are in the last thread.
The former U-570, renamed HMS Graph, did fire torpedos at U-333 but missed. |

HMS Triad was sunk 1940 by the italian submarine "Enrico Toti".
This episode was famous because, the battle was fought with both vessels surfaced one near the other at machine gun range and one Italian sailor was able to threw a boot at the men on the conning tower of the English sub to distract them. ![]()

There were several historical cases where a sub was sunk by another sub. Around 20 Uboats where sunk by allies subs. in all but one case- the victim was running on the surface when attacked.
The one instance Jimubna mentions - where HMS Ventura nailed U-864 while they were both submerged - was down to guess work, probability, and mathmatical genius..... oh and luck lol. You can watch the Time Watch Documentary on youtube (in 5 parts) part 1 is here: Last edited by JU_88; 04-24-10 at 05:55 PM. |

Wasn't there that other submerged sub duel, where they both just tried to ram each other? Neither sank, but they one that rammed the other one ended up with more damage. It must be true, because it was a SH2 mission, which I cheated on by using the external camera :-).
