Seriously, consider there were historically a lot more destoyers and light cruiser types than battleships.

What time frame are you running?

I would recommend you run RSRDC mod to model historical traffic better. Then, maybe lurk around Truk in 1943? Or, if running RSRDC check for historical battleship movements and wait there.

By the way, welcome to SHIV.

groomsie is right.. you should get RSRDC and google historical BB\TF movements and wait there... but should you encounter a TF its gonna be hell with those escorts 6-12 dds and counting.. but still you can skip around them... yep Truk alright in 1943 theres tons of them just be cautious of those subnets near land

All told, Japan had 12 battleships total during the course of the Pacific War.

4 Kongo class
2 Fuso class
2 Ise class
2 Nagato class
2 Yamato class building or fitting out at the start.

Realistically, your odds of running into one should be rather low. However, the game will always spawn a replacement if you sink one.

Japan starts with 18 heavy and 20 light cruisers. Your odds of running into them are pretty good.

In the stock game a good place to look is near Rabaul. They usually enter from the north channel. But you may have to let several convoys pass by if you really want to wait for a Task Force.

You can find big fat battle ships to sink and kill, just enter inside Tokyo Bay the major problem you have to watchout for destoyers and light cruiser types waiting for you outside near Tokyo Bay, because the destoyers and light cruiser knows your inside Tokyo Bay you have to get out alive from Tokyo Bay.

For another words you are facing a one way ticket is death, if you can get out of Tokyo Bay alive playing 100% real then you are a real skipper of your very own submarine 'May the Sinking Flat Top be with you'.

You will also find them at times in large task forces. Even though it was the job of the Skippers to take out merchants predominantly, you can have fun taking on a task force. The concept of wolf packs are not in this game but it would be fun to have AI co-op to operate with 2 other boats while setting up an attack on a convoy. Maybe SH-5 will employ this I hope.

Default I sank a Kongo

I did sink a Kongo BB in my first patrol with an old S lady, I was based on manila and was sent to patrol whatever is the name of the strait or pass up north of Aparri, then a task force came right to me, just waited, maneuvered when IDed the ships, picked my target, waited again and fired. 4 hits and she went to hell. I was lucky tho, the escorts went to check something and left the BB's all alone. There I got the hhang of the PK, now I can handle it more decently at 100% realism.

Also there is a lot of task force traffic early in the war traveling from Formosa - I think - to Singapore.

Load RSRD and learn your history. You'll find many at the major battles such as Midway, Battle of Philippine sea....and if you really want some the Battle of Leyte. I prefer to wait at the Surigao Strait, two Fuso's come that way. Then you can rush and cathc the center force the next day at Samar.

Truk is always full of them in 43 if you're into harbor raping....good points.

In warfare killing your foe with the least amount of risk to oneself is very wise.Ask Gene Fluckley(well you cant he passed away in 2007). I see the submarine as a nasty weapon much like a sniper fighting fair should not even be in a submariners dictionary.Raping would have to invlove an un willing victim any enemny ship does not apply to this notion for they know of the threat of attack and did not properly defend themselves aginst it.Further more rape is a sexual assult or it can mean the act of seizing taking by force abducting or plundering. but those would involve towing away the ships in the harbur not sinking them.

I also said good points.. I actually enjoy harbor raping Truk, Osaka and Kure. I only made it into Kure and out one time.

Truk is rather easy. Be nice if they would put some idle dd's mixed in with the stationary targets in harbors so they would take off and hunt you down.

I like full loads of M16's, so I'll rape truk for the points and build them up.
Nice to have 50,000 points when they come available.

I do exactly the same, sir... I have found several harbors worth checking for big targets when you pass by... but I am sure there are more I have not discovered yet. It makes figuring course and speed much easier.

So true. Sneak in and make the kill... then slip away into the darkness.

I think it was the fall of 43 that Truk was a field day. I went in and sunk 2 carriers and one Yamato. Went to the Solomon's at flank speed, refitted and flanked back, this time a differnt huge TF, so sunk as much as possible and repeated. Seemed everytime I went back another large TF was there. Even with 3 refits it still only took a month and I sunk over 300K tons. So I allow that brutal raping for the points.

Truk does have some challange to it getting by the several dd's and with contacts off it's what I call fair game. For most of the war there is always one Yamato and Fuso there.

We call it raping for one reason...the stationary ships just sit there and don't fight back, but all is fair in love and war. I just overall prefer moving targets, but in none can be found, I'll harbor rape somewhere before I run out of fuel. In reality, this would be rather impossible, there would be subnets closed and only opened when ships come in or out.
