am i missing something

ok so i load up the game and go to continue mission, im docked at kiel and i go and get some new orders.
once the dude has finished the briefing how the hell do i get back onto my U-boat and get under way???

There is an option marked start the patrol or similar when talking to him.

Talk again with the officer who gave you the missions and from the dialog list choose "let's start the patrol".

When in the briefing map (by clicking on what are my mission orders) , there is a little clickable black iron cross icon either side of England . Click on one to choose your mission , then when you talk to the officer it will say to start your patrol .
