Default No surface or air radar?

This is my first mission in the career mode. I think I am on the USS Porpoise. I noticed that I have no surface or air radar on my sub?? The planes are driving me crazy? Trying to get into a harbour for recon photos but the planes won't leave me alone! Do I have to earn the radars or is that sub not equipped with them??

Are you trying to get into the harbor on the surface? Dive down as deep as the water will allow and slink in slow and quiet.

I am still a little way out from the harbour. I try to stay submurged but my batteries get low and I have to survace to charge them.
Once I get in, I guess go to periscope depth so I can take some pictures??

hump it down @ 1 knot SUBMARGED to the harbour. turn on silent running.

Dont get too close to destroyers (6000 meters safety distance)

If destroyers ping dont freak out. Just mark their positions>

remember,

it's better to do port raids at night, and aircrafts can spot you at periscope depth, not at night though, unless surfaced..

What kind of time compression should I use for this?

Sneak in underwater at a slow speed. Use silent running, the "z" key. Keep your periscope down, they spot that. Take your photos then sneak out of there. As for time compression, use what merits the situation, maybe 64x at the most.
