2 questions about TMO

This has happened to me a few times so far: The escort finds me and starts pinging, makes a few runs and drops maybe 15-20 charges total. Then he continues to make dry runs, he pings me, then charges overhead (RIGHT overhead, could have killed me easily with a few of the runs) but doesn't drop any more charges. Do the escorts not carry many depth charges? Is there another reason they're not dropping on me?

Also, do ships in TMO sink over time? Or do they have a certain number of hit points I have to knock out before they go down?

They carry more then they historically should. I didn't want them to run out given how fast they can sow cans overboard.

Maybe their not sure of their contact? I think this happens when the signal return isn't strong enough to illicit a response.

If you mange to hit them in a vital area, then yes.
