Yeah sorry to tell you but the type 7 uboat could only max out at 18k I believe. you can press f10? Or might be f9? And you get a short boost but no way will it do 35k most convoys I have been up against though travel between 5-12k

Why are you trying to catch DD's? They aren't bring war supplies to Britain!

Let warships go, unless a BB or CV happens across your path or something. You're out there to kill merchants (even though the campaign doesn't seem to realize that...)

I upgraded my engine guy and I can get more speed out of both electric and diesel.
Never heard about the supposed bug about engines. Have heard there was a torp speed bug tho.

Hello theglenlivet12,
Don't forget, you will loose about 5 knots when the batteries are charging.

Depends on the amount of waves.
I can get from 8-12 kts on ahead standard.

Forget the DD, you are no match on your best day either in speed or arms. That is unless you can catch one tooling along at slow speed and you are already ahead of him.

But no you will never catch one if he's at speed. And you dont want to either, that is unless you have a death wish.

Thanks for all the replies. I wasnt wanting to catch the destroyers that were going 35kts since they didnt have much to offer me. That was merely for illustration. I was, however, trying to catch an AC doing 17kts the other day and it seems I have to just get lucky not only to spot the thing but that its headed right for me.

Even if it's parallel to your course, depending on weather conditions and range, you might still be able to get within firing range and slow them down by damaging one of the convoy. At that point, you've bought yourself some time to set up a proper attack.

I use this in Operation Monsun all the time and it works fairly well. It shifts the terms of the battle into my favor, and if I'm sneaky I can still maintain surprise. They might know there's a U-Boat out there, but often they're searching in the wrong place. Till late war anyway once they have radar lol. DDs have amazed me a view times zeroing in on my location after a quick periscope peek.
