Default Damage Model

Hi all,

Was just wondering about the damage model this evening, after gunning down a merchent ship then finishing him of with a torp,

Deos it matter where the torpedo hits on the ship?

Deos it matter where the shells from the deck gun land?

when should I use HE and AP rounds when targeting ships?

and one last question, the two lines above the ship the blue and grey one..what do they mean...when the grey one down it sinks but the blue one?

cheers all

Deck gun first.. thats different..

Im convinced that in SH5 it doesent make any difference where munitions or torpedoes hit the ship. It seems to be hit point based.

I could be wrong because it was modeled in previous titles.

AP rounds at the hull HE at the deck.

Grey line represents 'hull integrity' blue line 'sinking' my personal observations leads me to believe the ship will not go down untill the grey bar is nulled out.

Same damagemodel as previously, just wth the bars displaying for feedback.

Ship's hulls have HP: it runs out, the ship sinks.

But compartments are also modeled, also with HP; if it reaches 0, the compartment starts to flood.

Basically the red bar represents hull HP, while the blue represents total HP of the compartments.

In the stock game you're usually forced to keep firing untill the red bar runs out. But there ate a few mods that deal with that problem, by changing the balance of the ships so they sink through flooding, or increasing torpedo damage so more compartments are damaged and start to flood.

At least with a mod, yes, your targeting matters. And as a general rule of thumb; HE for merchants, AP against DD.

Not that you should start gunning down DDs.

I'd have to disagree. I've sunk many ships on patrol without depleting hitpoints to 0. No I don't play with the bar. But sadly the limited number of targets allows me to make a decent conclusion that the damage model is a bit different than 100-0.
