Default Repair crew working?

Hi!

started playing SHIV again, coming from SH3. Tried different ubermods, I think I stick with RFB from now on.

One important question though: If I activate the repair crew via the control bar (lower portion of the screen), nothing changes in the crew management screen. I just got sunk while "shadowing" a TF west of the philippines, I guess a heavy cruiser had one salvo aimed correct. Critical flooding in the engine room. unstoppable descent...

-as I said before, no change in the crew management screen,
-and I couldn't prioritize the damaged compartment in the list, this probably would've made any difference, but I wonder why the damaged pressure hull didn't show up
-what exactly is hogan's alley? I don't understand the crew management screen in SHIV...

a picture of my doomed sub:

Hogan's Alley is where you put the Bridge Watch when you're submerged. If you leave them in place on the Bridge, and you take damage to the Bridge from depth charges, your crewmen will be injured/killed. It's all explained in the RFB readme manual.

As for the repair crew, man the repair crew slots with the most efficient men for the job. In the "Repair Team Priority" box, click and drag whichever box (damaged area) you feel needs attention first, to the top of the list. It works for me.

Men with the Machinist rating are your best-qualified men for the damage repair team.

thx! I've read some from the manual and understand some things better now... for example the pressure hull damage from the cruiser fire leading to unstoppable flooding and sinking unstoppable. Am I correct to think that the engine room pressure hull was completly destroyed and therefore not repairable (in the priority list)?

one more thing: if I order to man aa or deck gun, will the crew actually man these stations on their own or do i have to move them there? I had the feeling in TMO that they were not manned on their own.

That was probably the case. The submarine damage model for RFB has been set up so that the player can no longer just shrug off hits to the pressure hull. In reality, a single hit to the pressure hull was a patrol-ender.

You have to manually move them there.
