Default Wait!! So this game is out?!?!?

Here I am working 75+ hours a week.. No time to breath let alone look at the status of this game.

Yesterday, I start looking at some videos and information, and I say "Wow, its almost as if this game is out already"

More research and I guess it came out

First time ever since I missed a release of a Silent Hunter

OK!

I am reading some people saying its not so good.. That the RPG aspect is not good? I would think it would be awesome! To have full roam of the sub and talk to my crew..

Can someone sum it up really quick??

1. Does it get you emersed into the game? Will I have the feeling (I am really in this sub) ??

2. Hows the damage? Can you see holes or dents?

3.Is it true you have to have internet to play? I plan on single player only.

4. Bottom line.. Is it as good as SH3 ?? I didnt like 4 that much, but loved grey wolves part 3.. Is it close to that?

THANKS ALL!!

1. the visuals are quite good, as are the sound effects. however it became more arcade than sim.

2. every vessel have a health bar and a flooding bar. if flooding is high enough it will sink regardless of health, or have no healthg left and explode.
yes, you can see damage holes. but it is very basic.

3. by default, permanent internet connection required or you will be kicked out off game, even with singleplayer. sad but true. all hail to the drm system.

4. no it is not like sh3. more like sh4 but with more rpg-style elements.
to sum it up: wait for a vast bugfixing patch and for all those awesome mods to make it more sim-like.

Of course everyone has another opinion, some people don't like the game at all, others (like me) do.

yes.

Do you mean damage on AI ships or on the U-Boat? AI ships have got 3d damage, like in SH4. I haven't had my U-Boat damaged severely enough yet to comment on visible U-Boat damage.

yes, it's true. Even for singleplayer you need a permanent internet connection. With the right settings you can still play with the worst possible connection though. Total bandwith usage for 1 hour playtime is about 2MB on my rig.

not yet.. but I'm pretty sure that it will be once the modders get a good grip on it

Best answer I can give you is to read the review. It answers pretty much every question.

It's nowhere as good as GWX, but with time, it will be. It's got so many incredible features just waiting to be improved upon or activated, like wolfpacks, "milk cows" resupplying you, etc. etc. etc. that could never be added to SHIII. Right now, though, you need a battery of mods to get it to work (although it's big fun when it does).

For a lot is seems to boil down to whether you have problems with the authentication servers. Some seem to have no problems and have very few (if any) times when they can not play because of the servers being down.
On the other hand, some people try to play their game and can not because the UBI servers will not let them. (usually the troubles arrise on the weekends when most traffic is trying to log on))
UBI has cited on at least one occasion that their servers were being attacked by pirates and that was the cause of some of the outages.
Not sure how to determine which side you will end up on until you try the game. If you do and you have no connection problems you will wonder what all the complaining is about. If you can not play your game because you can not log onto the servers or the servers lose all your saves then you will wonder how anyone could of said this game was worthy of the purchase at this point.

I have had several times when I couldn't log on to the UBI servers, AND have lost half of my saves thanks to the hailed DRM

But still I like the game. There are a few bugs and flaws, maybe even quite a few, but I still consider it a decent game, and this even before all the supermods are even started on
