Default Anyone made uses of the DRM 'features'

Hi all,

I was just talking to a friend about it and it got me thinking. How many of you guys actually use the features that Ubi said were the plus points of the new DRM? I'm thinking of the ability to save your games online and play from any number of PC's.

If yes, what are your experiences of it? Was it really a plus point, or a waste of time?

I've still not really made use of them, having really only 1 PC thats up to playing SH5, but who knows. I may consider using it in the future. (for instance, LAN party at a friends). What do you all think?

Please note, I don't really want this to turn into another anti-drm topic...there are enough of those already!

Of those whom own and play the game I would think the percentage using DRM is nearly 100%

I already started a poll on the save game issue I'll go give it a bump.

I lost an entire day of saves because "synchronize" to Ubisoft means "overwrite local files with what Ubisoft has regardless of time stamp" and not "make sure all files are current both locally and remotely" as it should. Turned that "feature" off, and because of how it works can never turn it back on or I'll lose my files again.

There's nothing this DRM "features" that is better than a plain DVD offers.

I have only one gaming computer, so the "benefit" of being able to play it on multiple computers is a non-starter for me. As for the sync'd saves, I can make my own savegame backups. I don't need them to do it for me.

Thats pretty much what I do. I've got a NAS box sitting in my house and everything I do (games, work etc) gets backed up to the NAS pretty much every day. So I'm not really sure I'd ever need someone to back up my games for me.

I can see it'd be useful for those who aren't that comfortable computer-wise however. I know plenty of people who just wouldn't think of navigating into a games directory to find and copy off saves/game profiles so I suppose it would be a help for them.

The reasoning they gave for introducing an "online platform" were indeed weakly convincing at best. I always have control over saves of my games, as I occasionally make copies to keep for later (for the good old times sake...). I don't know, but they would have needed to add quite a bit more to make it look good to the average person, but I can't even think of any functionality online that I would desire for a single player game. Really nothing, unfortunately.

Maybe they just should have been honest about the real purpose of it on release, and say it will be their first step towards a pay-by-play /pay-per-additional ingame content basis. Maybe that would have been received better. Although thinking about it, why would you need a permanent connection for downloading occasional new campaigns, or units, or just skins? Even I turn in circles following their concept...
