Bloody watch crew will be the death of me!!

Running the game without contacts..pick up a hydrophone contact and set a course to run it down. Stayed inside the boat and waited as I closed in TC mode..still not a shout from my wonderful watch crew...so I decide to x1 TC and pop up to the deck for a look. Well sod me if it wasn't 4 DD's and they promptly started to shell me..I had to dive deep and fast and just about got away with 84% hull, 87% battery, structural damage and starboard 85% diesel damage.

Is this a known bug?? if so, how do you get around it??

Yeah its known to me at least. I probed around the harbours of Englands Eastern coast since hydrophone and watch crew didnt notice **** out around the sea lanes. I went in surfaced since it was night, att 32 times the speed. Annoyed with no contacts i open the hatch intent on doind some spotting on my own. Well just 700 meters to my right is a patrolling destroyer. And 1500 meters away is another one steaming towards the direction of the harbour. My retarded watch crew must have been able to spot him way before. I order dive, launch a torpedo at the destroyer (whos watch apperantley is as blind as mine) 1 downed destroyer...but man he could have shredded me att that distance. Had i not gone up myself it would have been the end of that campaign. And 2 times i have responed against merchants on hydrophone, wondering why the hell my watch dont report when i plot a perfect intercept course i go to the conning tower and viola!! I am in the middle of the convoy.

.....gay!

It's happened to me too. At least two or three times I've been running TC and before I know it I'm under attack with not so much as a word from my watch crew.

Another bug today - surfaced and I have no watch crew at all, bridge all to myself. Thought to myself "ahh well they are useless anyway" then it dawned on me...... Can't give orders to anyone

Has happened to me a few times, but only when I have forgotten to turn off travel mode.

I have edited my main cfg TC settings.
I think the game defaults to 8 tc when spotting enemies.
I changed it to 1.
This seems to allow the 'Ship Spotted' speech file to play. Well, about 50% of the time anyway.
It still seems a bit buggy.
Plus it gives me a chance to spot I've dropped to 1 TC and investigate.

Might be worth a go.

The reason I mentioned the travel mode button first is because that's how I nearly got myself killed today!

Just remembered, there's 2 of 'em.
One in the game directory, and one in the documents folder.
I didn't know which one to change, so I did both!
I have a feeling it reads the one in the documents folder, but I ain't sure.

EDIT: One where your SH5 exe is. Data/Cfg/Main.cfg
The other where your game saves are. Documents/SH5/Data/Cfg/main.cfg

I think. Let me just go and double check that for you. I'm not at my gaming rig at the moment.

Same happened to me, but I remember that I reloaded just before and so the morale was down to zero. (I forgot to make a special meal then).

Maybe the lookout crew needs at least some morale percents to work properly??

I've given up on my watch crew and switched to playing with map contacts on - not my preferred mode, but better than having a Watch Crew that doesn't actually watch!

Irritatingly, however, I now find that after diving to avoid escorts and the like my Watch crew never bloody shuts up!
