Started My 1st Happy Times Mission .. Aircraft

Sailing from my old port in germany to my 1st mission before heading to Lorient, as I sailed down the english channel I came apon a merchant. I plotted its course and set up my boat for a shot when it crossed my path, as I waited I could see the smoke from its funnel. About 10mins into waiting 2 friendly planes flew past the merchant and headed North. I sat and waited but nothing the merchant didn't seemed to be moving, so I surfaced and raced to the spot. There 600 yards in front of me was a burning Merchant, the planes had attacked it, 6 to 10 shots later I sunk it. The same with another some 20miles on.

I thought when I seen the aircraft Icons it would be like SH4 and you could ask for a patrol to find ships in the area. But it seems so far that they are scripted in and attack ships without being asked.
