Default Game options don’t save

Guys

When I set my realism options, (75%), they save by hitting “apply”. I can verify by going back into the settings, reloading the game, etc. When I enter the game however, after choosing a mission, campaign, etc, I am back in auto TDC / disabled event camera, (35% realism), etc. Basically all the things I set NOT to be there.

I have heard that you must ne in the dock to change options as once at sea the options tab is locked, however even when I change in the dock then head out to sea, the revert.

A couple of points;
· game not installed in default folder as I have win 7
· this is my first patrol
· no errors saving
· no mods installed
I have noticed that when I tweak the realism settings they are deemed “custom” in the tab at the top, but when I am confronted by the campaign screen, (where you chose the period of the war), before setting off there is “only easy, normal, hard”, etc. no “custom”. I am thinking that this is the issue.

Any ideas? I this a bug or a feature that I am not understanding?

When in the sub pen. before you board the sub. press [Esc]. then select the realism settings. You can not load a save after this as the setting in you save game will be used. you either have to finish you current patrol and then change the settings (once you've docked and are back in the sub pen) or start again.

Mine is set to custom 88%. I just have map contacts on ATM.

So, if I start a new game, go through the "choose campaign" screen, then to the sub pen, chose a mission & patrol, THEN change the realism settings, they will work properly?

If one set the realism option in the menu, for the very first time, and then do the first mission or tutorial for the very first time, then there is a way to mess up the realism options afaik.

Because when you choose a new campaign with a new Kaleun, that process offer an option for 'difficulty' which I suspect would override up whatever was set in the main options. Not the best game design imo.

Edit: Ah, feel free to correct me if I am in error here.
Edit2: I think it is unfortunate to mix the labels 'difficulty' and 'realism' as in 'realism options'.

What i have found re; realism settings is that you need to set them after you have accepted a mission, but before you actually take the "lets start the mission" dialogue line.

So start your campaign and regardless of your main menu option settings, go into the briefing screen, request your mission, come out of the dialogue and then go into options and set your realism. Then Save your game, and then go back into dialgue and get the mission started.

You should not need to change anything for the rest of the campaign after that.

Yes... you can change the realism settings anytime in the sub pen (before you board your boat, as realsim settings are greyed out if your on your uboat).... just dont load a saved game after changing the settings.

Bloody hell, what a palaver!

Still,it's early days yet. Once we get to 1.4 or thereabouts this sort of thing will seem like an amusung story.

I must say that this game has bags of potential. Lets hope UBI dont pull the plug because of all the flak they are getting.

Cheers Guys

Do I also have to stand on one foot, while patting my head, and rubbing my belly and reciting "She sells sea shells down by the sea shore" while setting the realism settings?

This is the kind of crap that should have been fixed in Alpha testing..... and proves Ubi nor the devs gave the program a good scrub before release and quite frankly a game breaker for me.

I dont think its a game breaker,This options malarkey has a solution if folks just rememeber to set realism before they head off to the high seas. I would be over the moon if this was the worst of SH5's problems.

Very true.... I would be overcome with joy if this was only one of the problems.

So you only have to set realism before you leave for patrol? What if you save while on patrol?

The sure fire thing to do is to go to an isolated hilltop, take some peyote and sit down for three days and make firm and binding emotional committment to whichever realism settings you want to adere to.

Then come down, reintegrate into society, open up gameplaysettings.cfg in the config folder, and manually change them under [Easy] and then copy & paste them into every difficult level after. So that the settings are exactly as you want them, for every difficulty level.

Save, and then copy this file into your Documents\SH5\ folder.

It's a raz but it will do until it's patched.

The same as SH3. the save game remembers the realism settings. but you cant change settings while out on patrol. Realism settings can only be changed while in base. The same as SH3.

Yes but you only need do it once, and they are saved permanently, regardless of when and how you save your game in future. Its not the saving of the game, but the setting of the options in the sub pen before coming out on your mission.

Yep. You only actually do it once per career, so it's not that much of a big deal is it?
