Contacts Map Q Help

Ok I'm getting a bit thrown here , a contact puts up on the map some 50km from me, heading West, I'm South West of it. I click on the contact and it say Merchant speed 10kns. So I draw a line through the middle of the Mechant out 70km = 7hrs, I click on my uboat and put a waypoint out to the 70km point at the end of the line. I put my speed up and will be there about 1hr ahead of it.

But the thing was where the initial contact popped up and still shows, when I drag my waypoint line out towards the end of the 70km line, a little ghost icon of the Merchant moves out from the one on the map. Thing is, when I put my waypoint at the end of the 70km plot line the merchant should be taking, the little ghost Icon moves way beyond the end of the 70km line ???

Yet from my position I start out , I should be at the end of that plot line 1hr before the merchant , but as I said when I drag my waypoint line to it, the merchant ghost icon is a few miles beyond it.

Now at 10kns if I am right and this is the way I did it in other SH games, it should take 7 hours to get 70km. So it should not be way beyond that..

Thing is , no matter where I put my waypoint , the little ghost icon that comes out from the main contact icon is always a few miles in front ??

I don't get it ..
