Default SH5 Crashes on startup.

Picked up the game from Impulse and so far not been able to start at all. Tried double clicking the Sh5.exe icon as well as the UBI shortcut.

As soon as the game starts it crashes and exits.

Running Windows 7 x64 with ATI 5870 video card.

I did uninstall and re-install.
Appreciate any help,
Thanks

I can't be of any help regarding crashing (only CTDs happened to me with certain mods), but would you be so kind and post the performance of the 5870 when you get it running? I'm thinking about getting one of those.

But it might help to know at what point it crashes, will it connect to our beloved DRM server and do you get past the loading screen into the main menu?

Did you install it in that Dell from your sig? You might try uninstalling the drivers for the Radeon, and the ones from Nvidia if you haven't already. Then boot into safe mode, use Driver Sweeper to clean out any left-overs from both Nvidia graphics and ATI graphics, reboot normally and install latest drivers for your new card.

Other games don't work either, or just SH5?

Porto; 5870 is the fastest single GPU card on the market. What more do you need to know about performance?

Oops - my sig needs updating

Running a Intel Quad/8GB of RAM, Gigabyte-EP35C, 300GB Velociraptor, 5870 ATI Radeon and Soundblaster Gamer. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Let me start by saying ATI 5870 is a VERY impressive card...runs cool and knocks down any game I throw at it all settings maxed on Dell 24 inch monitor - includes Crysis, BF Bad Company 2. Not a single issue with any other game except SH5.

The downside on the 5870 is that it's a very long card....I had to remove my HD drive bay and have the HD drives neatly tucked on the bottom of the case instead.

When I double click on the SH5 game icon "Play Silent Hunter 5" the game throws the standard Windows 7 "Application has failed and needs to be closed". May not have the verbage down exactly of the error message - on a different computer. Purchased from Impulse.

Update - complete uninstall and re-install fixed the problem. I had to delete the UBISOFT install directory also other wise even a uninstall/reinstall did not work.

Nice going the Uninstaller leaves 100% of the files but just removes the registry entries as well as icons
