Default Black Sea

On my last patrol (early 1941) when i was looking at the map, the Black Sea region interested me, basically a huge lake/inland sea with some soon to be enemy ports (i.e Odessa), and there's a small channel entrance to the BS.
According to the map it seems possible to enter the black sea through the narrow Bosphorus/Istanbul strait. Have yet to try practically though.

This brings me to my question:
Has anyone tried entering/hunting in the Black sea? Alot of soviet ships? Defenses?

Hi,

In GWX 2.1 I made some patrols at this region. When I stationed at Salamis sometimes I have sneak at the Black Sea. I patroled between Sevastopol/Jalta and Suchumi/Poti. Generaly nothing special have happen. Very small traffic of soviet merchants, a few romanian/axis small convoys. Near ports I found (nothing new) soviet ASW vessels like Uragan class. Enemy air traffic was very small.
I think it was a good region to one or two (no more) patrols just for check how is there.

I believe in GWX you can start a career with the 30th U-Boat Flotilla operating out of Constanta, Rumania on the Black Sea. You only get to use the Type II U-Boats as they had to be small enough to be transported there overland. Soviet ASW isn't nearly as formidable as Allied ASW is.

Right.
In GWX 3.0 You should use special campaign files to play on the Black Sea
(GWX - Black Sea Campaign Files Only).

Yes, its possible to sail through the Bosporus. Or at least it was before GWX Gold. Haven't been down that way since. I had a few missions in the pond and 'transferred' myself back to the med through the channel.

The Black Sea whilst being the quietest area certainly still has its hot spots.

By enabling the Black Sea mod you are removing the rest of the SH3 world which enables your game to load a little quicker.

Hmm there's a Black sea mod? Should have checked it out before i went out on my BS-trip during autumn 1941.

I didn't find anything what so ever.

The main ports (Odessa, Sevastopol etc.) were completely empty.
The only live thing i found in there at the time were coastal batteries, and the only sinking involved was when i hit a net in the Bosphorus (All hands lost).

you haven't enabled the "Black Sea Campaign"-files, this is why you got no ships to hunt.
in order to load faster some regions were made blank when hunting in an other one.

Enable the GWX Black Sea mod and the area (ports included) should come to life.
